I have several big cat groups which is my main passion but the safety and welfare of all animals birds etc should be the thing that we are all interested in but sadly not.

Hi ya..Kat here...felony convictions even  for 1st offense with a fully served long term jail sentence would be a good place to start with taking care of juctice against animal abusers.

Better yet would be a sentence of have done to you what you have done to any animal, for those who maim and abuse and kill with their intentful hatred and cruelty!

Then send them on a trip to another planet...with nothing but other hateful animal abuers...if they live that long after punishment.......

ZERO tolerance for animal abusers!

I'm Dutch and have strong feelings in general and the way mankind has been moving and shaking over the past 50 years seriously annoys me.

But I'm realistic enough to know laws alone won't cut it, not this time not this issue.

If this is going to change it'll have to come from the awareness that we're not above and beyond nature but actually part of it.

Every spiecies we kill brings us closer to our own extinction.

Earth has done very well without mankind for millions of years and will probably do very well after we've left.

Rinie,I have read your post several times and I agree with everything you said.I was especially struck with your phrase regarding "the more species we kill bring us closer to our own extinction." Those are profound words and ones we should all heed.

I am not a religious person but I have some strong spiritual beliefs and one of those is that a Power greater than ourselves created us and gave us the ability to use reason and logic-this Power also bestowed on us the ability to use those gifts in making choices. So many in our species have misused the greatest gifts and have committed atrocities that boggle the mind-especially abuse of those who are weaker and defenseless.

From the time that my 4 children and 5 grandchildren(soon to be 6) have been old enough to understand the spoken word I have taught them this phrase:

Be kind to all living things

Maybe it's not mine to understand but I cannot comprehend how anyone could abuse,torture,murder or cause fear in another living creature.

Rinie,you said,in effect, that we are all a part of this universe. Don't you agree that it places a strong moral obligation on us to speak for the helpless and voiceless? If not us then who will do it?

We can no longer sit back and gloat at our human "superiority"-we are not superior and it is demonstrated so graphically every day. No animal would ever perpetrate vicious behavior against another in the way that we do. They don't torture and abuse-when they kill it is for survival only. We are the only species(given reason,logic,and choices) to inflict these horrors on others. Kind of makes me ashamed I'm not a goose or a gorilla.

I am deeply religious but haven't chosen a specific religion because to me all religions are roadsigns pointing us to one direction. But there's a different road for each and everyone of us leading in the right direction.

I've allways believed our immense power comes with immense responsabillety, and that the power of destruction comes with the responsabillety to build.

Animals and children speak a language most of don't understand so we call them voiceless, you probably heard of the scienthist who said frogs loose their hearing when you pull of their behind legs because it doesn't respond to the "jump" command anymore. To me it says more about the scienthist than the frog.

Every living being has a voice only we don't take the time to listen. And animals and plants have an equal importance to us, it's a shaky balance and over the past decades we haven't tipped the scale to our benefit.

Dear Nadia,

I understand completely your grief at seeing the horrendous cruelty that is inflicted on animals, some days I can not handle it myself and have to have time out, I know it tears up one's heart and soul and everything appears hopeless and you feel defeated because it seems that no matter what you do, the animals still keep getting hurt, abused and murdered.  But that's why we all keep doing it, the sad reality is that the cruelties you read and see are happening right now to the animals, and if we do not try to fight and help, there is no one else for the animals.

I am sorry that some of the stories here are upsetting but sadly they have to be printed and put out in the open I suppose that is the expression, but we need to know what's happening to the animals to fight for them.

A sad fact is that we dont know everything that happens to them, what we post here is just a way we use to express and ask for help from other animal members so we can all join in and fight for the animals as a group.

Please dont think you will not be of any help, you are helping already, you are here and we would love to hear about your animals, or any stories you would like to write in about .

Hi there. I was invited by Melanie B and want to say Thanks for the invite.I may never have found it by myself. A little about me.........I have been married for 16 years, I have 2 girls,ages 6 & 7.They are quite the handful. Along with them I have 3 dogs;Plott hound,Bassett hound and Shar pei X. 3 cats,2 ferretts,2 rats,1 guinea pig,a beta fish,4 chickens and a rooster.

Obviously I love animals.All of my animals have been rescue cases.It is a part of who I am.I work with several animal shelters,and do foster care. Some day I would like to start my own sanctuary,but for now I stick with helping other organizations out. Working with these places I have seen some really sad stuff.I have seen first hand what complete disregard some people have for the life of an animal. That is why I am happy to be a part of this group. We really do need tougher penalties for animal abusers. To many people get away with it or they get a slap on the hand.

My name is Elvin and I am honoured to join your group.

Thankyou very much to Simone for inviting me.

I am tired of picking up the pieces after some human has mistreated the poor unfortunate creature that they thought was so very cute as a baby but now can't be bothered with. I used to work as a fosterer and homing officer for one of the UK's largest cat charities and let me tell you I could make your hair stand on end with some of the stories I have. It was just heart-breaking. From the man sat outside his flat drowning kittens in a bucket, (we saved all those and I kept one myself), to the little angels(four boys aged 6, 6, 8, and 10) setting fire to a cat in the street, (I had him for 4 months while his burns healed and his fur grew back and let me tell you a gentler and more sweet natured gentleman you could not hope to find.) He eventually went to live with one of our other fosterers who saw him at one of our meetings and just fell in love!)

The human capacity for cruelty never ceases to astound me.

I am happy to be here and will do absolutely anything I can.

Hello, and thank you, Simone for inviting me.  I am afraid I have lived much of my life with my head in the sand.  I am been hopelessly ignorant of the cruelty to animals in this world for years.  Now that I know, it sickens me.  I wish I could take each and every abused, neglected, brutalized animal into my life,as I have taken them into my heart.  If I could, I waould exact the same treatment on the perpetraters as they dole out to the animals.

There is one agonizing issue, I would appreciate if each of you would take into consideration.  Horse Slaughter.  There is a petition to stop this barbaric practice and the bill against it goes before congress the week of Sept 5th.  They need 50,000 signatures and yesterday they had 20,000.  Please take a look at it, and if you can sign the petition and circulate to those you can
