Robin K.	August 16, 2006 11:00 AM (Thank you again and sorry for posting in the middle of these stories) I did see the story about the man putting the kittens in the frying pan. It made me sick. How could anyone be that cruel? I was (I want to say happy but that is the wrong word) maybe a little comforted to see that the man that caused "Mercy's" death will actually be punished for it. I found the Tony Blair story very upsetting too. I don't understand these people that claim to care about life so much and then don't care at all about the suffering of animals. To me, either you care about life and by that I mean all life or your opinion is not worth much but that is just my opinion and I can't get the politicians to listen to me. It is hard to imagine that dogs and cats are still being used as expendable tools in lethal experiments. It is a difficult fact that some of these animals were once accustomed to life in a human home and are now confined within a laboratory cage. Three states in the U.S.—Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Utah—still legally require that publicly funded shelters and pounds provide dogs and/or cats to institutions for experimental or educational purposes, and other states allow it. Several states have no law either way. In some states, the shelter cannot make surrendered companion animals available for adoption, but must instead provide them directly to the institution requesting animals. This horrible practice is a small, but troubling facet of the animal experimentation industry. I found this site about 'pound seizure' which allows unplaced animals to be seized for use in labs for experiments and is still a legal 'requirement' in the three mentioned states. This is the worst kind of abuse. I believe most people would rather euthanise their animals than let them be tortured to death. I for one would.The choices;euthanasia by lethal injection or torturous lingering agony.No chance for placement; you can almost understand some people letting their animals out to take their chances and maybe find a home as opposed to the dire and evil alternatives.
