Message: Travelling to Guatemala
Hello all Care2 members,
I am trying to generate ideas for a possible trip to Guatemala next spring, March-Mayish. It would be about 2-3 weeks long, and I am open to any possibilities as to things to do/places to go/etc. The Mayan ruins are the only must-see on the itinerary, but other than that I'm flexible.
I'd love to hear from people who have experience in the area, maybe have been to Guatemala, Belieze, or southern Mexico. Any and all information would be great! Thanks!

If you're already residing in Latin America or anywhere else in the world, and either wish to host visitors or simply show them around your city or town and be reciprocated worldwide, join us on 'Couch Surfing'

There are many specials year round into Guatemala (GUA) and Costa Rica especially via Cancun, México (TACA

Within Mexico, Central and South America operate first class and luxury Pullman coach buses both nationally and internationally, passenger trains, with a few exceptions are gone. Bus trips in South America can be as long as 50-60 hours, so plan your schedule accordingly. With time and patience one can aquire coupon style airfares to get around the continent rapidly:

* Sky Auction
http://www.skyauction.com
The company claims to be the leading auction site for travel-related purchases. It basically buys and sells deeply discounted airline tickets, hotel rooms and vacation packages directly, with no middleman. This gives you an advantage in that you always know whom you’re dealing with.
The site offers 10 categories of auctions, ranging from holiday travel to trips to Asia and Australia. It also offers a slew of deals you can buy outright without bidding.
How good are the prices? Bidding often starts at $1.
* Bid4Vacations.com
http://www.bid4vacations.com
This company specializes in full vacation packages typically lasting five to seven days. The site makes it easy to find what you’re looking for by listing its packages in the categories of adventure, beach, cruises, family, gaming, golf, international, skiing and weekend getaways.
Bidding here, too, can start at $1. You can also find bargains that let you skip the bidding process. This week’s featured vacation deal, for example, is four nights in the Bahamas, for two people, for $239. Yes, it includes airfare from nine major cities in the US.
* Priceline
http://www.priceline.com
"This is the famous "reverse auction" site for cheap airfares.
Basically, you plug in where you are, and where you want to go and when. Then you list how much you’re willing to pay for the ticket. The software then scours its inventory of deals for one that matches.
If you get a hit, you do the deal right then and there.
I’ve heard raves about this site, although I have spoken with people who have had trouble finding a match. That usually means your price is too low. In general, try to find the best deal you can on the Internet, drop the price by 20 percent or so, and plug it into Priceline*. "
*We sport a 'Priceline.com' banner on our non profit humanitarian aid organization based in Nicaragua: CINDURMA
http://www.cindurma.org
/ and for each ticket purschased via our site, Priceline sends a donation to us. Good Folks. Just don't bid too low or you may not 'hit'.
Chances are you could be pleasantly surprised.
Hope this helps you to bring down the cost of your next Central or South American vacation.
