I am an interdisciplinary artist, who is a visible womyn of color, single Mother of Mestiza ethnicity: Apache, Mexica. I am Xicana and identify as an indigenous women. I am the loving daughter of a Korean War veteran and the loving sister of a Vietnam War veteran. In 2002, I set a precedence for Colorado University Boulder’s Art department when named a CU Boulder Art’s and Humanity’s Scholar. As a first generation college graduate and the first within my extended family to earn a Master’s degree I find it important to create pertinent films and compositions built upon the critical analysis of colonization. I draw upon intergenerational familial experiences of diaspora; the struggle to transcend racism, poverty, and oppression in the pursuit of self determination. I speak of this uprooted reality through my work and create vibrant and distinct images reflecting spiritual, political, psychological, and cultural understandings. My film URANIUM WOMYN 238 is traveling internationally, for more information or to schedule a screening in your area please contact me. There are digital stills from the films in my photo gallery. I am tired of the colonial lens that is perpetuated on Indigenous lands.
My Philosophy
That the prophecies of Indigenous peoples are coming to be..
What Gives Me Hope
The resilience of Earth, and Spirit.. My son's smile...
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Focus on the future generations, Make health care, housing, and food available to everyone regardless their economic status. SMILE AND NOT LIE...
What/who changed my life and why
My Father, and Grandmother... Because they affirmed who we are as a people, and showed me how to be strong in the face of struggle, and showed me how to weep for humanities vein pursuits of greed. They taught me to love the earth, and realize that we are all related...
