Re: Activist Aspirations, I have spanned all selections. I am a burn-out from the community social services sector. I designed and implemented a number of pilot programs--one of which impacted national domestic policy on employment/training & homelessness. I was so committed that I would do anything to make a difference. I used to put up homeless people in my apt if we couldn't stabilize certain clients--I worked 60-65 hours/week for about 5 years. I don't do that anymore. You can't get that close to your work. For a number of years afterwards, I would have to cross the street if I saw a homeless person.
How I describe myself: I like to have fun. I used to sing, and dance, play much more than I do now. I am committed to doing that once again w/ great... child-like vigor. Am looking for new friends to share in that joy.
I want to get out more and do physical things like camping, biking, hiking, dancing, dancing, or dancing. Did I mention I like to dance? I used to be fanatical in my work-outs in my youth... Can't do it like that any more. Its too easy to hurt myself. Inspite of the fact that I haven't had any kind of regular work out in... like a year, I can still do 14 pull ups and 45 push ups. Inspite of that, I have become self-conscious of an extra 10 pounds that I have gained over the years. I would love to meet a cute girl who is interested in working out at anything to lose a few pounds and have fun. I love to cook and am interested in learning to eat more healthy. I am exploring more vegetarian dishes for ethical and health reasons.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Universal Health Care.
What/who changed my life and why
5 years of community social services and church work while studying for the priesthood as a Dominican Brother while studying for the priesthood. It changed my theology and outlook on social justice, world/social oppression through economics, morality, military might, restrictions on education, etc. It helped open my eyes on how we are just as much a part of the problem as we are the solution.
