I have Fibromyalgia and suffer with chronic pain on a daily basis. I'm looking for information concerning a possible connection between Fibromyalgia (FMS) and Arnold Chiari Malformation (ACM). I had an operation for Chiari in '86 and had no medical problems thereafter until a car accident in February 1994 changed my life forever.
I'm 5'0" and I now weigh 100lbs -- again. I've always weighed 90-95lbs my entire life, but then I got sick. As is usual for FMS patients, no one could tell me what was wrong with me until one test led them to a diagnosis of Hypothyroidism. By this time, I had gained 88lbs. and that was NOT normal for me. I guess I actually have the Hypothyroidism to thank for my Fibromyalgia diagnosis, since there is no test for FMS. I would probably still be undiagnosed if it wasn't for the unusual weight gain.
Now, with medication to curb the thyroid problem and a pain patch for the FMS, I live day to day. I never know how I'm going to feel on any given day until I actually get out of bed. This makes living LIFE rather difficult and a lot of people still don't understand that if I can't make plans it's not because I don't WANT to do this or that. It's because I CAN'T do it. I hope everybody would just understand that much of my 'invisible illness'. That alone, would make me feel so much better.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
"...make sure that EVERYone had access to medical care, regardless of how much money they make -- or don't make."
What/who changed my life and why
Fibromyalgia changed my life because I was running a small business and was planning my family when FMS first came on. I can't even imagine what pregnancy would have been like at my present pain level!
