Grant #1: TESA, Weavers of Salacuim This group of Mayan A'chi women from the Eco Region Lachuá of Guatemala. They working in their homes, supporting their families and express their A'chi culture. The group trains the women on leadership, organization, and business & personal skills.
Help us support TESA to buy vital weaving equipment and support trainings for local youth groups - with our support, TESA can build necessary infrastructure to be fully functional & independent!
Grant #2: ALANEL, indigenous women's weaving co-op. ALANEL produces quality handicrafts to tourists in Guatemala, but is currently experiencing low labor productivity - a major constraint to the group's competitiveness. The technology for the "back-strap loom" is labor-intensive (producing 18''- 20'' length of woven cloth per day), but by sharing a group "Foot loom," more cloth can be produced per hour, increasing potential income and increasing their standard of living.
These Indigenous Mayas Quiches united after the Guatemalan civil war to provide for their families after the war left most families without their male figures. Their mission is to promote integral development and participation of women in order to achieve a just and adequate life for all members, and have become leaders in the communities in which they live, acting as role models to other women.
