In BRIEF: Eco-Jihadist (Struggler for Creation)
LONGER version: In her day job Ms Rianne C. ten Veen is a humanitarian aidworker (with additional task of being organisation's Environmental Focal Point). Outside her day job, she focuses on faith & environment projects: she is a member of the management team of Islamic Foundation for Ecology & Environment Sciences (IFEES), member of Steering Groups of 'Engage' (a CSV Environment project) and 'Faith and Climate Change' (a Birmingham Friends of the Earth project; this project was a finalist in NESTA's Big Green Challenge and won The Guardian's Community Hero award) and the Environment lead on the Committee of the Birmingham Council of Faiths. In 2009, she self-published a 'save cash& planet' style book from Islamic perspective: '199 ways to please God, how to (re-)align your daily life with your duty of care to Creation' (ISBN: 978-1844266296) and set up Green Creation. She is also an Associate Lecturer at the Open University on an interdisciplinary course on environment (Environment: journeys through a changing world), and Islam in the West. She has an MA in Law, an MA in International Politics and a PGDip in Environmental Policy. Finances permitting, she would love to do a PhD on Islam & Environment: comparing the humanitarian aid principle of 'do no harm' with the Islamic principle of 'la darar' (do no harm) with regards to sustainable development.
