What Gives Me Hope
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by	If I were Mayor, I would increase law enforcement and education programs' budgets, abolish euthanasia as a solution for pet overpopulation. Increase fines related to pet ownership/domesticated and wildlife animal responsibility, encourage the enforcement of a no-tolerance policy for abuse/neglect offenders-that includes people, too! Change the whole structure of the city's Animal Control Services. I think that city government should network with other cities and non-profits for healthcare, recycling programs, alternative education, transportation and social services better thank they do now, and put stringent requirements and expectations on animal profesionals, petshops, zoos and other public animal displays or sales, with violations at severe consequence. Provide public with low-cost veterinary availablilty. Family and individual healthcare assistance for legal residents (& those in process of becoming legal residents) shouldn't cost arm leg, house and home. I would promote volunteer projects for children, teens and adults which benefit the community-especially sign language and Spanish/English tutorials; animal welfare, safety, education and companionship programs for mentally challenged, elderly, and confined; low-cost or free alternative medicine options; and correctional facilities that do not need public funding for inmate amenities-ie, prisoners work for thier own food, blankets, cable, etc and provide a public services (grow thier own food and for sale at Farmer's Market, sew thier own clothes and clothing for others, train companion animals, etc) in exchange for their own needs. I think there should be classes in public school that teach conflict resolution. I think the history or 'social studies' curricula should have more anthropological and sociological content. And government should be introduced earlier in school and should included more about crime, law and punishment.
