What I Want to Do:
My Page Billboard
thank you for your wishes, please know that you are blessed and deeply appreciated ...
UPDATE from SEPTEMBER 2010:
Circumstances have arisen that mean I will be taking a virtual sabbatical for at least one year; ie, I will not have any online access at all (no net, no email).
I will be thinking of you, and wishing you all good things.
Tyga, still maintaining his pedigree as an Australian Tubby, welcomed a trio of female felines into his pride.
A tortoise-shell whose fur looks like polished mallee scrub timber - we call her 'Cacia (for acacia, the wattle ... as in "wattle I do next to disrupt the peace?");
Ginger Snap - a cheeky young marmalade ... with bite!
and sweet young Shadow (because it's what she did to
Ginger Snap when she wasn't hiding in one) -
recently lost to traffic ...
Tyga's home is now also a popular drop-in centre for a bunch of local furry things - including a couple of "no fixed abode" - Fox (because that's what he looked like when he first strolled in), and Ghost (white and silent).
I wish you all good things, for all the days yet to be ...
Good things to you,
sometimes I forget ... sometimes, I don't know who to ask ... ...
time for a refresher course? ...
NB - if you simply copy and paste an image from your own computer (eg, from My Documents or My Pictures), then only you will be able to see the image - everyone else will see a broken link, which if they trace it will tell them to look in their C drive for the image ...
OK ... for images into testimonials ...
1. Open account with an image host ... ImageShack is the best -
occasionally, they are offline for maintenance ... so it is a good idea
to have another one as backup ... the next most popular is Photobucket.
2. Upload the images you want to use ...
3. For ImageShack, click on "my images"
(and bookmark this page for rapid visits in the future) ...
For Photobucket, you can bookmark the 'my albums' page ...
4. For ImageShack, click once on the "code for sites"
to highlight it and then rightclick and select "copy" ...
(For PhotoBucket, it is the code for "tags") ...
the code you need for testimonials begins with a "<" and ends
with a ">" ... that's what tells the Care2 host computer to search for a URL code within ...
NB ... note that there are two groups of links ...one group is for thumbnails ... NB ... large images will be resized ...
NB ... the "code for forums" is good for most other forums to post
images into discussions ... it is not the best choice for Care2
NB ... if you have a lot of different images you want to paste into testi's at the same time ... or even if it's the same image for a lot of people ...
the best thing is to open a new text file in "My Documents",
(or an email in Outlook Express), give it a subject like 'testi's for Care',
paste the code or codes into the file (email), and select 'save'
(not 'save as' for emails, unless you want the email filed in
"My Documents" - 'save' will put the email and the codes into your
'Drafts' folder in Outlook Express), and you can then just copy
the code or codes when you need ...
5. Open the 'Write Testimonial' dialog box on the person's profile page ... and paste in the whole code ...
NB. These can be long codes ...
best to either keep your written message very short,
or paste the code in first, and see how many character spaces you have left ...
(these include spaces between words and also carriage returns) ...
NB. if you don't want your image or your text to be pushed
to the far side of the resulting testi ... add a 'return' (or 'enter'
or two in between them ...
NB. testi's do not provide previews ...
NB. Care2 smilies codes do not work in testi's ...
6. Click 'Submit' ...
7. Chew your fingernails until the person approves the testi ...
NB. If you delete the image from the host server, there will only be a broken link wherever you have pasted that image ...
To post an image into discussions, New Messages ...
or into the new "comments" section of the profile page:
It is possible to insert the "codes for websites" or "tags" directly into the text of these NM's, but more often than not, the system cannot retrieve the image ...
and the recipient is staring at a broken link ...
you can often get around that by clicking "Preview" twice;
the first time will get it into the editing dialog box
(if not, it will show a broken link) ...
the second time will show the image in the actual preview ...
that's the safest course if you are using an outside link ...
it also works for the Care smilie codes ...
1. upload your desired image into an album on your Care2 My Albums page ...
2. open the album ... click on the thumbnail to bring up the full image ...
NB large images will be resized ...
3. right click on the image and select "view image" - I know that sounds weird, but trust me on this ...
4. copy the url from the browser ...
5. click on the 'insert image' icon (the little pic of the tree next to
the smilie) ... in discussion groups, when the dialog box opens an annoying little pop up will tell you "this is the insert image box" ...
click OK ...
6. paste the copied url into the top dialog box ...
7. select "middle" for the setting to be safe ... (otherwise it can play havoc with your text) ... or type in a brief name for "alt text" where required ...
8. Click 'Insert' (or OK ... or whatever it is) ...
9. Watch the selected image appear in the text box ... marvel at the
technology ... and finish and send your message before the system crashes and you have to do it all over again ...
NB. use the preview where available as much as possible ...
this ensures that Care host computer has latched onto the image you want ...
it also helps you see if there are going to be problems with size or text layout ... before it's too late ...
NB. even after using the preview, you may find that the images you inserted into friends' comments sections (on their profiles) have been downsized ... (or if the images in your comments section seem a bit small) ... again, right-click on the image ... and select "view image" ...
you should then see the original image and size that was uploaded ...
For inserting images/cartoons etc into discussions,
the process is almost identical with NM's ...
the only difference being you might have to press 'Cancel'
after you've inserted the image if the dialog box doesn't close itself ...
if you press the insert button twice ... it will copy the image twice ...
NB. once you have successfully inserted the image into a message, or comment, or discussion ...
you can simply "copy" the text and image, and paste it into as many of these as you desire ... they are all compatible ...
this is true also of your "billboard" (on your profile page)
and the text section of your blog shares ...
(that's the best way to get large images into your blog shares ... ... )
NB. If you delete the image from your albums, there will only be a broken link wherever you have posted or pasted that image ...
have a practice at that ... good luck ...
this message will not self-destruct ...

professional dreamer ...
about me? 'twould be
a tale in the telling ...
an epic of sorrow and laughter
of love and of loss
and the best and the worst adventure
an explorer am I of landscapes
inside and out
a bard, yes ... and rusty knight ...
and one who remembers
the forgotten ones
and finds in nature,
peace and respite
'twould be a tale of one
who was never tied down in spirit ...
though has been in flesh
of the dusty outback,
or the grime of the city
of mountains both calm and volcanic
of a spirit sometimes so in control
when around all is pain and panic
of a heart that can love,
perhaps too easily
but never sets out to bind
but wishes that all could
to follow their dreams ...
share their love
and leave their problems behind ...
an admirer of all that is Woman,
for all that is true
strength and beauty
is found and resides in her eyes
an ear, an arm or a shoulder
and counsel when such is desired
with no thought of time's
no feeling of hunger or tired
until the need is past,
when at last I may sigh ...
and crawl to bed
and fall far beyond
the realm of dream
and rest in the land of the dead
to return a few hours later and get
started with coffee ...
and a cigarette
a spirit that walks
in two universes
the mystical and the mundane
and delights in
the flow of the elements
which brings me back to Woman ...
and such is the most
of the one who inhabits this space
and I guess, like most,
the map of the journey is written ...
in my face
