Socialism: is a social and economic system (or the political philosophy advocating such a system) in which the economic means of production are owned and controlled collectively by the people.This control may be either direct, exercised through popular collectives such as workers councils, or it may be indirect, exercised through a State. In the latter case, the issue of who controls the state is crucial. A primary concern of socialism (and, according to some, its defining feature) is social equality and an equitable distribution of wealth that would serve the interests of society as a whole.
Pure socialists hold that capitalism is an illegitimate economic system that serves the interests of the wealthy and exploits the majority of the population. As such, they wish to replace it completely or at least make substantial modifications to it, in order to create a more just society that would reward hard work, guarantee a certain basic standard of living, and extend economic and cultural opportunities to all.

I am a dreamer, and a hoper. I am Wiccan and have been for many years, I have strong leanings towards eastern religions. I am slightly obsessive in my thirst for religous knowledge. I am an activist. What Gives Me Hope	Small children doing small children like things. Toddlers sticking their tounges out at you at the supermarket. Kids who throw rocks and random things like bushes. Kids who hide in the department stores between clothing racks. and babies who can't ever decide if they want to cry or smile and so attempt to do both. That's what always brings a smile to my face and gives me hope.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by	- Legalize gay marriage. - Abolish the Patriot Act. - Set standards for all imports to be Fair Trade. - Actually participate with the UN and the world government. - Reinforce separation of church and state. - Create a nationalized health care system. - End big tax cuts for large companies that don't give back to the environment and their communities, use that money instead to fund social programs for children and low income families. - Reorganize income taxes so they are progressive. - Give tax breaks to middleclass and low income families who donate time and money to charities and non-profits.
