Mission Statement Help Labus is a non profit organization for the protection of animals, particularly the stray dogs in the town hall pound in Galati. Who are we? We are your neighbours, your friends, collegues striving together to alleviate the suffering of the stray animals in the streets of Galati. This is who we are: 10 hearty volunteers who founded this organization from a sincere wish to help the animals, to take care of these stray dogs that the town hall has gathered in inappropriate dog shelters. This is only the beginning. Taking care of almost 800 dogs from the town hall shelters is not an easy task but it has made us even more sensitive to the needs of these animals and stirred a profound wish of doing so much more because we have seen that our combined effort makes dreams reality. Activities Providing sufficient food for the stray dogs in the town hall shelters is one of the main priorities. The food that they get from the town hall is not enough and it only consists in bread and water. We provide the supplementary food, mostly expired food purchased from various food merchants. We wish we could afford offering them dog food but it is too expensive for us. Every weekend all our volunteers do the work needed at the shelter. All the members of our team have their own jobs but youth, our love for animals and the deep concern for the less fortunate creatures around us has brought us together in this work and made us involve more in the problems that the community faces. That’s how we remind others that the rights of these animals are not forgotten. So no wonder that all the spare time that we have got is dedicated to the stray dogs of our town because they are a part of us and they should not be ignored. A veterinarian has also joined our efforts and has become involved in our volunteer work. She helps us treat the ill animals and all those in need of medical attention. The main problem consists in shortages of medical equipment and medicines. We also think that a spay/ neuter program is essential to be put into practice in order to diminuish the number of stray dogs on the streets of our town.
Another priority is placing these animals for adoption. We are permanently looking for loving homes, for people willing to be the focus of a dog’s love and faith and trust. In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog. The conditions of the town hall shelter need urgent improvement so the building and the restoration of the existing shelter is a necessity that cannot be delayed. We have planned creating some enclosures outside in front of the building of the shelter that would allow dogs to walk more freely and enjoy the sunshine. (for 2 years they have lived in small cages without the possibility of feeling the breeze of the wind or the feeling of freedom). We are presently trying to get the authorization to manage all the activities regarding the stray dogs in our town. The duties that come with this would be: gathering the stray dogs as a result of complaints, registering them, creating temporary dog shelters for stray dogs, releasing dogs in the areas where they were first captured at the request of citizens who take the responsibility of building kennels and providing food etc. So our efforts prove that if there is a will there is a way. Our volunteers work hard to accomplish all these goals Unfortunately we are faced with many problems, mainly because of the lack of understanding of the authorities who most of the times would cruelly discharge of these animals, of the people's indifference, of the lack of a good law in the protection of animals, a lack of necessary medication and of a lack of funds that would give us the chance to do more for these poor creatures who are innocent. We desperately need your support in helping us find people who would involve themselves in our efforts to save these dogs. The streets are full of abandoned animals. It is a sad reality of the world. We believe that because of human ignorance and irresponsibility the situation has aggravated raising the number of stray dogs in Galati and the cases when these animals are treated badly and cruelly. People don’t know what to do in order to help these stray animals. That’s why we have taken action, we want to show people that there are so many ways of helping and our articles in the local newspapers guide people on what they can do. It is time to assume responsability, to rectify the situation by providing all pets with a peaceful healthy and happy life. We owe that to them who love us unconditionally and fill our lives with serenity and joyful smiles. Projects - Spay/neuter program of the dogs in the shelter, of the ones in the streets of Galati, and also the dogs in the households of irresponsible pet owners who let their dogs breed uncontrollably and as a result puppies would be abondoned by the garbage containers thus growing up to be the future stray dogs who would create discomfort to those who don’t love animals. - Going on the spay/neuter program started in the areas affected by the floods. - Project concerning getting the authorization for the management of the dog shelter from the town hall. - Local clinic that could treat, spay and neuter the dogs. - Providing funds and food from various commercial centers.
- Constant sponsors, reliable persons who can give us their support continuously. - Tv shows, radio programs and newspaper articles in order to change people’s mentality concerning the status of stray animals. - Informing the population in Galati about the necessities of these animals by creating leaflets and fliers about the dog shelter or different events that take place.
- Finding permanent loving homes.
- Educational programs in schools that promote the welfare and the responsibility of having a pet.
