If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by

I would first push for education reconstruction, not reform. "Reform" has been used so many times it's a cliche' by now. Reconstruction, to my mind, is a better term, and applies more to what I would do...The current school system, like many of the buildings which inadequately house the students, needs a complete overhaul, including a HUMONGOUS shift in pay raise for teachers. They are the ones who guide our young people through the growing up years. I would also provide extra assistance to those who valiantly choose to either place their children in charter schools such as Waldorf or Montessori, OR homeschool their children for various reasons.
I would also push for legalization of substances such as marijuana and peyote. Marijuana IS technically an herb and should be treated like one. Peyote should also be legal for the reason that long before this government was in place, people were safely using this plant for spiritual journeying. I do not believe either plant needs government regulation, for in my view, this kind of regulation is just a result of a fear-based culture. I would promote peace--not just among nations, but among my own countryfolk. I would promote the idea that we are all part of the One, and strongly re-emphasize the antidiscrimination laws, including allowing for our gay/lesbian brothers and sisters to have legally recognized marriages, thus having proper health insurance, etc.
