Do you hunger for a peaceful home for every child?
Mahatma Gandhi once said that poverty is the ultimate act of violence. Indeed, when one looks at child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault it is impossible to ignore the role that poverty and economic issues play. It is my belief that by addressing both the economic issues and the harsh realities of violence, we can have an even greater impact on violence in our children's lives.
Throughout 2007, I will be fasting each Friday as a statement against the abuse and poverty that children of the world endure. In this way, I hope to encourage simple acts of compassion by everyday human beings like you and me. Will you join me this Friday, or any Friday, in fasting (perhaps not just food...but giving up SOMETHING of value to you)?
I am seeking individuals to donate $1.00 to the "Tenderness Tour" to be divided equally between the "Tenderness Trail" planting of memorial trees to honor child victims of violence and the "One Campaign" and its efforts to combat poverty worldwide. Donations should specify "Hunger for Peace." Please include at least your name, and memorial or honorary donations are welcome and will be acknowledged on the "Hunger for Peace" page on the Tenderness Network website. Corporate/Organizational participation is invited, as well.
All "voices" who donate throughout the year will be recognized on the Tenderness Tour website (either by name or name/location). Individuals who do the following:
1. Donate at least $1.00 2. Commit to fasting at least one meal 3. Recruit one other person to participate in "Hunger for Peace"
These individuals will be recognized in the Tenderness Tour's special "Outcast Society," a donor level not designated by "amount" of donation but by commitment to the cause. "Outcast Society" members will each receive an "Everyone is Beautiful" bumper sticker if a mailing address is provided. (NOTE: "Hunger for Peace" is not dependent upon the "10,000 Voices." "Hunger for Peace" will continue throughout the year whether we have 1 or 1,000,000 Voices!)
So, let us begin anew this year...this year of "hunger" recognizing the power of each of us to make a difference in each other's lives. I appreciate your ongoing support, encouragement, prayers, donations and volunteer hours. Please help me spread the word about "Hunger for Peace" to your friends, families, schools, churches, Myspace friends, non-profit organizations, local media and everyone else.
Send your donations of $1.00 or more to:
Tenderness Tour PO Box 20367 Indianapolis, IN 46220
OR you can use the Amazon HonorSystem on the Tenderness Tour website. For more information, please contact Richard at Richard@tendernesstour.com.
Peace and Gratitude,
Richard Propes Founder/Executive Director The Tenderness Network
Since 1989, I've traveled over 3,000 miles by wheelchair raising awareness on child abuse, domestic violence and other family violence issues with a specific focus on how they impact children. I'm the founder/director of the Tenderness Tour, an Indiana-based organization committed to establishing "A Peaceful Home for Every Child." We donate 100% of funds received on our road tours to various children's organizations, and I've provided speeches, both inspirational and educational, to churches, schools, non-profits, civic leaders and city officials. We also sponsor the annual "Tenderness Award," an award acknowledging outstanding commitment to children and towards breaking the cycle of abuse/violence. I am also the co-founder and a film critic for IndependentCritics.com.
I once traveled for 41 days and 1086 miles by wheelchair raising awareness on child abuse prevention issues.
My Philosophy
Everyone is beautiful; There is always hope; Touch can be a loving experience; Laugh often; Be honest; Play; Love without fear; Violence is never justified; Every single moment is a chance to turn your life around.
What Gives Me Hope
God, my Goddaughter, children and simply taking the time to look around.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Establish a Department of Peace and invite every single world leader over for a Peace Picnic without an agenda...just taking time to get to know one another. I'd listen more, talk less...Serve justly and lovingly.
What/who changed my life and why
The bible, Thich Nhat Hanh's "Being Peace," Andrew Vachss, Charles Bukowski, Mother Theresa, Bob Wieland, Terry Fox, my Goddaughter Victoria and way too many films to mention.
