About Me

I'm an isotope geochemist by day - and a poet by night. I love this planet, and am happiest with my bare feet touching the ground and a good storm swirling around me.

I have a passion in me that can't be extinguished. If this is the only life we have - I intend live it with joy and reckless abandon!

I was once a corporate banker -- and then I woke up one day and realized the folly of wasting my life in drudgery. So I gave it all up and started again. Now my job takes me to the arctic (at the moment) where I can wander through the tundra in places that are still unvisited by humans. Sometimes the silence can touch your soul.

I do research on the geochemistry / isotopic composition of natural archives like water, trees, sediments ... even birds (lol it's just a small test - I don't harm anything). I analyse these samples in an effort to learn about how our climate and environment are changing and how we can prevent (or adapt to) what's ahead.

On any given day I can be up to my hips in mud, hiking a mountain, climbing through lava tubes, or hooking nets of gear to the underside of a hovering helicopter.

I have camped with wolves, slept with foxes, and looked countless polar and black bears straight in the eye. To some of you this all may sound horrifc ... but to me that's grabbing life and giving it a passionate kiss!
