I am a single Dad who has a remarkably bright, energetic 6 year old son. During the week our 10-year old Dalmatian and I go for walks around the neighborhood, have games of tug, and occasionally just lie about dreaming. When my son is with us, we go to parks, IMAX movies, figure out where to camp or to fish, or play games of UNO, Candyland, or Yu-gi-oh! I am also a graceful loser, because I’ve taught him how to play far too well! I am pretty much up for anything at most anytime. I like to but have not exhausted my interests: in dancing, ballroom, shag, slow, or the rumba; having romantic dinners; reading sci-fi or fantasy; walks on the beach collecting shells, hand in hand, or by moonlight; camping at Satterwhite point; finding the rest of the NC waterfalls; horseback riding; learning to paint watercolor; learning to get my poems to rhyme; lying in bed a few extra minutes to hold my lady; saying I Love You to friends, family, or people who impress me with their authenticity; laughing; getting others to laugh; playing online games after everyone’s asleep; working in the garden; repairing things around the house; underestimating the time it will take to make a home improvement; cooking with someone in MY kitchen; spending time with friends and family; snow skiing anywhere; getaway weekends; or photographing everywhere I’ve been. I absolutely like making time to see my son do Tae Kwon Do, volunteer at his school, and meet friends for lunch. I eat Indian, Ethiopian, Thai, Chinese, Italian, German, Vegetarian, and Organic foods. I love a cabernet sauvignon, syrah, zinfandel (not in a box) and am not afraid of white wines either. I like soaking in hot tubs (bubbles or sans effervescence), candlelight of any kind, and giving back/foot rubs to wind down or start up. I like almost any kind of music but only listen to country when I want to scream “hell yeah!” or cry. The right chick flick will make me tear up and no I haven’t given up on action flicks, Indies, Anime, or every kid movie that will come out until my children get tired of watching them.
In the last two years, I’ve: traveled to Tahiti alone and recognized that there are paradises on earth and that man can live in harmony with nature without trashing it; become more politically active to make the change I want to see in the world; completed an amicable divorce where I tried everything I could to make it work and have no regrets to it’s completion. Case in point, we used a mediator not a lawyer to solve our differences and reach agreement. My mother, father, and sister all live within 15 miles and are an active part of my life. My extended family still includes incredibly supportive and loving Out-Laws who still see me as their son and are a part of my life post divorce. I have taken on two new careers, sales and recruiting, after leaving my role as a researcher for RTP’s Pharmaceutical industry. I’ve also taken on my interest in acting or doing voiceovers (hey, I want to BE the cartoon character for Disney! See prior note about making folks laugh.) Things that could use improvement: I would like to be more physically active; I like yoga but it’s tough to fit in. I’d like to take my two-man kayak out more. My cooking has added a few pounds to my middle and I’d like to learn more healthy recipes. I am a reformed pack rat and am currently learning to purge and organize everything! I would like to complete a book I’m writing or publish the children’s book I’ve written. I am seeking a woman who is comfortable in her own skin. Has a vision for what she wants, is committed to making it happen, and is in action to bring it to fruition. I am looking for a partner in all things; someone who can tow the whole load but realizes its never going to be more than half. I believe in a healthy relationship of time for being a couple, time for self, and time for family. What I expect of the lady in my life also counts for me. I’m on her team, I want her to win!!
Lastly, I've suddenly become concious of a world around me that I assumed was going along pretty well. It was a harsh awakening, I've recently become more active in both politics and in making the changes I wish to see in the world. They all revolve around accountability, responsibility, and compassion.
I am the author of my life. I can be enrolled by my circumstances or I can acknowledge them and create what I want anyway... A life examined and worth living to the fullest.
What Gives Me Hope
That 100% is possible, 100% of the time.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Hold corporations and individuals accountable to their actions by ensuring they addressed the impact they create on others. I'm a New-Age NIMBY... not in my back yard.. as in.. don't drill for oil, mine it, dump nuclear or hazardous waste, don't leave oil slag pools, landfills that haven't had recycling, etc.. in my back yard. You can add all the windmills, hydroelectric, or solar panels you want.
What/who changed my life and why
Buckminster Fuller. I love a guy who gets beaten down as much as possible, but he keeps thinking and comes up with something that he can be passionate about. Then he figures out all the ways that idea can be adapted to help others directly or indirectly from that idea. Now that's an awesome life.
