I'm going to do this first in a series of word associations because as usual I'm sleep-deprived, and then I'll find a poem that I've either written or that inspires me and I'll post here:
I am smoke.
I am incense.
You smell me.
You feel me.
Yet you cannot touch me.
You cannot stop me
from rising into your sense
and overpowering you.
I am like fire
because I can burn you
and pain is pleasure
in my eyes
Just one? My favorite animal in the world is a crocodile, and I've always wanted to have a pet bengal cat and a sugar glider.
My Philosophy
Life is your creation. You can't change your family, or your race, but nowadays you can pretty much change everything else. So go be happy damnit, life's too short.
What Gives Me Hope
When someone sends a get well card or a thank you note, or an email acknowledging something I said or did that touched them--even if I forgot or it's been ages, that gives me hope that I am making a difference.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Make California it's own country, then appoint myself its President, impeach/demote Schwarnegger, and have Oprah be President of the rest of the US.
What/who changed my life and why
Book: The Count of Monte Cristo for fiction, The Catcher in the Rye (classics)...The Alchemist (recent fiction)--the Count of Monte Cristo because it's about a man's tale of changing his life and getting everything he ever wanted and every detail is perfectly interwoved. Same with Dickens' novels. The Catcher in the Rye developed my sarcastic tragic flaw which offends some but hey, that's their problem. The Alchemist taught me to believe in dreams again. Nonfiction: The Food Revolution (a bit repetitive and corny at times, this book will make you vegan if you're not already. It gives you all the right reasons, facts, and stats) What Should I do with my life? great book--tells the stories of people who took different paths. Just finished reading Righteous, a book about the different subcultures of the Evangelical youth movement. Scary Republican Jesus freaks. It was very interesting to read because she really was objective and subjective at the same time, and I read this book around the same time I saw Jesus camp, a documentary nominated for an Academy Award this year...
