Was an aspiring race car driver once. Actually WON an amateur state sports car championship one year. It became an exciting, closely fought battle between a competitor with a mid-engined Lotus Europa and my Lotus Elan, often decided by hundredths of a second. He had the advantage of a better-handling car and had been to driving schools in both the U.S. and England. But I was totally focused on getting every detail of my car right, and driving the wheels off her. The tight courses in the series allowed us to dispense with the other, more powerful, cars in our class: Cobras, Corvettes, Griffiths, and TVRs.
The next year I made some modifications which moved me up from the "street" to the "competition" class. Was way ahead on points going into the last event, and would have won the series again by just finishing. But NO, had to show off. Broke her. No points. End of racing career, and back to reality and a "normal" life.
My Philosophy
Don't bother anyone. Don't take more than my share.

If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
I'd push alternative energy technologies for all they're worth. Everything from solar to fuels. Strive for effiency, conservation, and energy independence.
What/who changed my life and why
Wow, tough question, as I've been lucky to have known many people who have had a profound, positive influence. But I'd like to think that THE big life-changing event is still in my future.
