In my neighborhood village is an egg producing factory!

When I moved in 2 years and a few month ago I never thought or could imagine that something like a factory farm would be so close to me. People know it but do not talk about it, like they did in the 3. Reich when it comes to the existence of the concentration camps.

I stumbled over it when I was asking around for a part time job. One man asked me what I did before and what experience I would have. I told him that I worked with animals most of the time and would have the most experience with pets. He told me that there is someone nearby who is always looking for employees but I should have experience with birds especially hens. I told him that I have not but be able to learn. Then he asked me what I have done before because not everybody would like to do the job or can do it. I told him that I worked with shelters (in Germany are only no kill shelters) and did rescue work in Spain with a rescue group. I told him further that I try to protect animals as good as I can and therefor I went vegan. Then this job would not be OK for me the man answered turned and went away.

I got startled and found an elderly woman who told me more. Yes, she said, there is Eifrisch. They always need people to help with the hens but the work is too hard now, because the hens would roam free. Earlier, when the hens were in cages, work was much easier. I should look elsewhere. I froze, then fled.

At home I sat in front of the computer and found the Factory farm, hidden in the woods of my neighborhood village through Google maps. It was huge. I was shocked. Never ever wanted to go there, never ever wanted to see it.

Weeks later, I bought a new bike and after a long time without a bike I started biking again. First I visited “Klaffenbach”, a wonderful small castle I like very much. Than I explored more of the area. I found a small pet graveyard which brought tears to my eyes. I left and was biking through the woods when I saw a big hall to my right. There was an awful smell in the air and I wondered what people would produce there smelling that awful. Suddenly I found myself in front of the hall and in that very moment I knew exactly what it was. The hen hall, one of them, the factory farm. I stood there, without movement and stared at that hall and then I registered the silence around me. There were thousand of birds crammed in that hall but there was no single sound, nothing but deadly silence. Even the birds and the small animals of the woods, normally busy and noisy during the day were silent. My skin began to crawl. I took my bike and went home as fast as I could.

About Me I have an elderly dog. She is 10 years old and suffers from spondylosis. This illness makes her limping with her right back leg. She had surgery almost 2 years ago but that didn't help much. Now she has bad and good times. Sometimes she is chasing a bird or digging mice like she did, when she was young and healthy. Most of the time she walks around slow. And so three times a day we make our way through the neighborhood. She is choosing where we are going and she is choosing how fast or slow we are moving. Because it is her back pain and it is her leg that does not work well.
I often see people with younger dogs playing with them, throwing tennis balls or simply running around with them. I see the young dogs playing together and having fun and I know I have to avoid such groups because my old lady is scared of them and might snap to them if they will come to close.
Sometimes I wish I could change my dog into a young and healthy one to have that fun again and to be able to play and run with that young happy and vibrant dog. Then I remember the times, when my old lady was young. When she used to chase birds and watched them fly away in disbelief. I remember her favorite toy, a ball she could barely carry because that ball had almost her size. I remember the kisses she gave me during our play sessions. And I remember the mornings when she laid close to me and gently woke me up by chewing my hand and licking my fingers. Most of all I remember that one day I took her home. The day I found her. A starving stray, a shy 4 month old puppy struggling to survive near an andalusian beach, more than 10 years ago.
While I remember all these things I look at her, how she is sleeping and snoring in our bed. I go to her and snuggle with her, gently pet her, give her a soft massage and listen to her sounds of complacency. We grew 10 years older together and now I am the one who give the kisses. At that very moment I know I never ever would give her up, never ever would abendanon her because she is sick or old. I will stay with her till the very end. Until that day she will break my heart and cross the rainbow bridge. And then I have to wait, until it is time for me to go and to leave that world. I am sure we will find each other there on the other side where we can be happy again and together forever, because the bond we build is made from love, and love is for eternity.

If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by Would make factory and fur farms illegal. Would ban wildlife in circuses and end every testing on animals. Would create better laws to protect animals, wildlife and the environment, stop overfishing and ban hunting.
What/who changed my life and why After I saw a trailer with fighting pigs on it on their way to slaughterhouse I became vegetarian . It was winter with freezing temperatures. The ventilation dampers were open and the pigs bit each other and screamed. The drivers ate their meal inside a truck stop and did not care. I tried to stop the pigs with no success. It was horrible. A short time after the incident when I learned that factory farming is the worst for animals, I stopped eating meat.
