Do you remember those sunny carefree days of summer, those days of childhood, playing in a woodland, by a stream, or chasing friends across a lawn, filling you with joy and delight?
Perhaps you believed in angels and faries, or on wishing on a star, and your world seemed full of moon-dust and miracles.
Somewhere along the way the magic fades, along with our ability to be 'happy for no reason', to gasp in awe and wonder, to dream the impossible dream. Our ability to glimpse the invisible realms is slowly buried beneath a mound of daily demands and routines, rationality and cynicism.
For some, life seems at best hum-dum and ordinary, or at worst, full of struggle and anxiety - we simply focus on getting through each day. Yet deep down we have this nagging feeling, that life itself isn't meant to be this way. That there is more to life than this. That a more joyous and magical existence lies just beyond our reach.
Have we possibly been brainwashed? For the past 300 years most scientists have persuaded us to believe in a clockwork, mechanical universe in which life is a random accident, which happened to emerge from a primordial broth.
Science has given birth to a nightmarish existence in which we are isolated cogs in a mundane world - machine, leading brief, meaningless lives while battling against the brutal forces of nature.
Whatever does not fit this materialist world view has been declared irrelevant or even nonsensical and therefore been devalued, e.g. The mind, consciousness, experience, feelings, thoughts, intuition, love, wisdom, faith, God, spirituality, inspiration, creativity, myth, religion, art, ethics, psychic experiences and personal growth. No wonder we live ni an age of anxiety and despair. We are being deprived of our very humanity, our very souls.
Religious dogma has also promoted the mundane world view. Both science and religion have portrayed humanity as the helpless pawns forces beyond our control. Science sees our lives determind by the laws of nature or the whims of so called 'chance' and 'coincidence'.
Religion has pointed towards the (often cruel) dictates of God, fate or past karma. Either way we are powerless. Both science and religion have viewed the world as purely physical. Scientists simply pooh-poohs the non-physical and non-rational. Religion often contrasts the mundaneness and suffering of life with the divine. Viewing earthly life - with God as our absentee landlord. Something to be endured until we ascend to the dubious pleasure of playing the harp for eternity, or vanish into the personal oblivion of Nirvana.
However, our vision of reality is now undergoing a transformation so profound. Collectively, we are taking a quantum leap in conciousness - a leap towards rediscovering our connectedness with others.
A leap towards awareness of other dimensions of reality. We live on the edge of the miraculous. A vision of New Age is indeed beginning to dawn.
When we look closer and closer at 'solid objects' - such as chairs, candles, etc we do not see tiny but separate particles, but rather interlocked web of energy fields. At a quantum level everything is interconnected.
The new biology is shifting towards a similar vision of reality. Remarkable studies have shown that people, monkeys, rats, birds and even crystals seem to communicate in telepathic ways.
The mundane world view would dismiss this as impossible. We are not a conglomeration of molecules, we are connected to everyone else, and in a way that transcends time and space.
As we approach this quantum leap in consciousness, could it be that we are beginning to move beyond the limitations of the rational mind, beyond the five senses, beyond space and time, beginning to explore the inner realms, to stretch the boudaries of our consciousness?
We are moving beyond our human potential towards our spiritual potential.

Prayer of St Francis of Assissi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
St. Francis was born at Assisi in 1182. After a care free youth, he turned his back on inherited wealth and committed himself to God. Like many early saints, he lived a very simple life of poverty, and in so doing, gained a reputation of being the friend of animals. He established the rule of St Francis, which exists today as the Order of St. Francis, or the Franciscans. He died in 1226, aged 44.
