“The great enemy of clear language is insincerity. When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink.”
– George Orwell, "Politics and the English Language," 1946

"nothing will change"
I disagree. You and I often disagree, but I believe that right there is our primary disagreement. Everything is changing constantly. Ray Kurzweil is someone to watch. If you look at the book "ibrain", your own brain has changed simply by your immersal in the online environment. Everything is changing. If we do not dictate the tides of change and where they will go, than we are at the mercy of them. Please understand that real unemployment currently matches the numbers from the first great depression. The problems you describe are typical of any society, especially affected by poverty. Why should you expect them to disappear? The depravity of the poor is used to rationalize more suffering. Breaking the spirit of the common man often leads to totalitarian regimes. Extreme conservatism can easily trend towards fascism.
Article: [Fascism Anyone?]
If you believe that the political spectrum is divided up into right wing libertarian and left wing socialist, you are wrong. Or at least willfully imprecise. Most commonly, the vertical plane is divided into authoritarian and libertarian, while the horizontal plane is divided into communist and corporatist/fascist, with all points in between. What you are conditioned to think of as left and right wing dichotomies, are not so simple. In the USA, there is no tolerance of socialism, which is cast as authoritarian, although the word does not imply that. Therefore the political spectrum in the USA ranges on this axis only between centrist, and the far right; fascist. Meanwhile authoritarian and libertarian policies exist relative to, but independent of that scale on their own axis, unbeknownst to people cajoled into single dimensional metaphors. Those who are familiar with this scale understand that authoritarian government is most likely at either extreme, whether communist or fascist. The fascist extremists, (corporate oligarchs), are gaining power in your country, and you have no left to balance them out aside from #OWS which is in it's infancy. Remember, Hitler was elected.
Whoa, fascism. What exactly is fascism?
