Well, sad to say, I think my time on care2 may be coming to a swift and not totally unexpected close. Earlier this week, after a long, drawn out war of words with certain elements on this site (anti-vegan trolls) I woke one day to find that my account was apparently suspended (as the error message I got when I tried to message some of you said, anyway).
After a short time I emailed Randy Paynter directly, asking him what the situation was. I had previously emailed him letting him know that if these same Anti-Vegan trolls tried to pull their shenanigans and get me banned simply because I do not agree with their willingness to kill animals for food and fun, that I would be very unamused.
I never got a reply to either email, but when I tried to log on repeatedly for the next day or so, I kept getting the same message. Eventually I gave up, but I tried logging on the next day and lo and behold, my account was back. When I checked my PMs, I found that there was a PM from Care2 Support, and in it was an message that was actually a direct answer to my last email to Randy.
In this message, Care2 Support claims that I was never suspended, but that what I was seeing when I got the supension message was the fact that one of my posts in an article not related to Animal Rights had been deleted because I used the F-word in it (to be honest, I did do that, but it was not directed at anyone. It was in an exclamation of general disgust at the state of the world).
Although I was sceptical of this message, I decided to keep posting on as if nothing had happened. I posted a few messages in one thread over a day or so, but the day after that, I woke up to find that my ability to post in certain specific threads, including the main one I was battling with the Trolls in, has been eliminated. I can do anything else on the site, but posts in that thread and a few others. In addition, several of my posts calling out the Trolls on their hypocrisy and general ignorance had been deleted.
If you've seen these posts, you'll know that I do try not to overly insult or degrade people that much. I endeavor to keep my vitriol in check and simply post relevant info on veganism and logically refute people's irrationality as much as I can. I DO call out the trolls, but I attempt to do this at LEAST without violating the spirit or the letter of the rules set up on Care2.
Keep in mind, when I say "trolls" I'm not talking about the average people who post in general saying "I am not a Vegan, I eat meat as well as other food", I'm talking about people who go into a thread on an article specifically about whether it's ok to kill animals and post about how you should not be Vegan for this and that reason and how good it is to kill animals and eat them, etc. In other words, people who are specifically trying to make people considering Veganism turn away from it, and divide people who are for Animal Rights from the people who genuinely care about the welfare of all animals but don't feel that they understand the "Animal Rights" people's stance enough to go vegan.
If you want to have a better understanding of what's been going on in these kinds of threads lately, you can read more here:
So, anyway, to wrap things up, because Randy Paynter and his squad (ahem, excuse me, "support team") would prefer to keep Care2 members bickering and divisive, and prevent level-headed members from being able to stand up to the trolls on the site (I'm not the only one, there is a pattern that I can tell you more about if you like) I believe my journey on Care2 may be coming to an end. Unless this block on my ability to post is a glitch, that is.
I also had a thought the other day, and I want to warn you guys to question exactly HOW Randy and his people use the advertising dollars they get which are supposed to partly go to the charities you click to use your Butterfly Points on. What exactly DOES happen with that money? When I asked Care2 about that, I didn't get a reply...
If you guys need to get ahold of me for anything, messaging me here probably won't work, so just EMAIL me at email@example.com.
I realize that some of you may not choose to walk by my side on my next journey, and I accept that. For my part, I am thinking about trying to increase my non-internet side of my animal activism, possibly including entering the realm of public speaking on the subject of Veganism.
Thanks so much for your friendship and everything you've done for me and for animals.
