This beautiful huge Sweet Chestnut lives in the forest near my home. It is the biggest-girthed tree in the Netherlands - 850 cm or 28 feet circumference and 450 years old. Because of its hollow trunk children have been told since ages that gnomes live in it. And I imagine they do! Sadly, in January 2005 the tree was set on fire by vandals, but the tree is strong and seems to be recovering.

What an Amazing Tree...

"Silent and strong... you command the attention of each and every person and animal who wandered through the forest... without a word... you captured my attention... my imagination... and my heart" ~ Christopher
