Cassie wandered into our yard one evening at dusk. I just happened to be on the deck to watch the fading sun and it was quite dark by now. I thought she was a baby javelina. Such a large body for such a tiny head. I realized she was pregnant. Went in for a flashlight and I grabbed a bowl of catfood left for the desert feral that I feed and went out and attempted to bring her in. Coyotes were howling close and I knew she couldn't last the night. She had a cholla cactus pod stuck right in the middle of her nose. First night and day inside with us she ate like a little horse. Two nights later she gave birth to four sweet and precious pups. And she is precious.
