Here is a young deer that was hit by a car and left to suffer alone as the heartless people that hit him drove away after checking their bumper... After hours of effort trying to get someone to come get him and possibly saving his life we were forced to turn our backs while 2 police officers took turns shooting him in the head. They said animals that aren't domesticated "DON'T MATTER". It breaks my heart and makes me sick that this baby was treated the way he was with no remorse. The police didn't even care that this little guy was hit and they didn't care about gathering info on the people that hit him either. Our local vets, SPCA, and the emergency animal hospital at the local University all refused to help. Also, I found out that night we have no local wildlife control officer.... this was a senseless death and it's a shame that people care more about their cars and getting back to their desks then showing some love and compassion.
That night I sat with him stroking his head trying to calm him and making sure no one else hit him I asked myself over and over... Why is it so hard for some to care? How can anyone turn a blind eye? What is wrong with people and the way they think? Why is this allowed? I thought we had laws against hitting animals and driving off without reporting it to the police? What is going on here? Why wont anyone HELP??
Before he died I was harassed non stop by my neighbors as they screamed for me to leave him alone because I would get sick ( which I didn't)....Passer bys that pulled over just to stare and some that had the nerve to put their hands on him because they were thinking with their stomachs instead of their hearts. I will never forget this night, I will never forget the lack of compassion that was shown, I will remember "Button" always because he DOES MATTER!! So much I can say here, this is very emotional for me...but I will leave it at that and hopefully this will touch someones heart as much as it has mine and maybe just maybe this story will make a difference in someones life and possibly save another life in the future.
