This is a photo of a Cherokee woman walking to a stream to perform the early morning ritual called going to water..This cermonanial ritual actully served two purposes..It was a means of keeping the body clean and it also was spiritual and served as a spiritual cleansing as well..My ancestors even in ancient times were a very clean people and often took a bath many times a day during the summer months..The early white Europeans when they first entered Cherokee lands believed that taking a bath was not health and it was their practice to only take a few during the year..
