New York Wildlife Rehab Center Will Remain Open

SuccessWildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation (WINORR) was in danger of losing its animals until Care2 member Robyn created a petition to keep the operation open. After delivering the signatures to Oyster Bay, NY Supervisor John Venditto, the staff of WINORR learned they would be able to continue rescuing and caring for wildlife at their current location. Animal Cruelty is Finally a Felony in North Dakota
SuccessThe North Dakota legislature passed a bill that establishes some felony-level penalties for incidents of malicious animal cruelty within the state. Once Governor Dalrymple signs the bill into law, South Dakota will be the only remaining U.S. state without a felony animal cruelty provision on the law books. Read more.

U.K. Saves Wild Animals from Kidnapping and Circus Life

SuccessThe United Kingdom has finally banned circuses from using wild animals in their shows. Hopefully the ban will not only prevent a great deal of animal cruelty in Britain, it will also prevent animals from being murdered or kidnapped from their homes in Africa and Asia. Read more.

Humpback Whale Nursery and the Kimberley Saved

SuccessWoodside Petroleum has dropped its plans for the $4.5 billion project along the Kimberley coast in Australia. They would have created one of the biggest industrial complexes on the planet and led to drilling and dredging some six kilometers out to sea. The Kimberley coast is home to several species of turtles, whales, dolphins and fish. Read more.

California Kills Ag-Gag Bill

SuccessThe current trend among factory farmers trying to hide their despicable practices from the public is to champion anti-whistleblower laws, generally called ag-gag bills. The sponsoring legislator had to withdraw the bill in the face of overwhelming opposition, but the fight continues in other states.
