78,000 Tell Swiss Zoo to Stop Killing Healthy Bear Cubs

In the past two months, 5 healthy animals have been killed by zoos internationally. Copenhagen Zoo sparked international outrage over its February 2014 killing of Marius, a healthy 18-month-old giraffe, and last month, the zoo again killed a family of four lions. But the outrage didn’t stop Tierpark Dahlholzli, a zoo in Bern, Switzerland, from killing a healthy bear cub after its father became aggressive.

Care2 member Nikki Lowe sprang into action to protest the killing: more than 78,000 signed on to her petition and pledged to boycott the zoo.

The Care2 petition was also noted in a number of German news outlets:

Berner Zeitung

Der Bund

The incident is alarming, and animal rights activists hope this tactic will be put to rest for good. You can voice your opposition to euthanasia of healthy zoo animals by signing Nikki’s petition here.

46,000 Demand Judge Jan Jurden Be Fired After Letting Child Rapist Avoid Jail

Tens of thousands were outraged when Superior Court Judge Jan Jurden ruled Robert H. Richards IV, heir to the du Pont fortune, would “not fare well” in prison following the conviction he raped his three-year-old daughter. Jurden commuted the heir’s sentence for child rape to probation, leaving many to wonder why our criminal justice system affords softer penalties to the wealthy 1%.

More than 46,000 signed the Care2 petition demanding Judge Jan Jurden be fired. The petition also gained traction in media outlets including:

USA Today

Miami Herald

Democrat & Chronicle

Detroit Free Press

The Tennessean

As of the time of this posting, the judge still has her petition — but you can add your signature to the petition here.

Thousands Demand Toronto Reverse Decision to Ban Electronic Dance Music Shows

In Toronto, city council members voted to ban popular electronic dance music events from city-owned buildings at Exhibition Place, sparking a slew of online backlash. On Twitter, devotees of the genre trended #BoycottMuzik, a reference to Muzik Nightclub, which advocated for the ban. The Care2 petition protesting the ban quickly went viral, gaining over 4,200 signatures in just 24 hours.

The Care2 petition was also featured in news outlets such as:

Global News

National Post

Do you think Toronto should reverse its EDM ban? If so, you can add your support by signing the petition here. We’ll keep you updated if the decision is reversed.
