Dr. Sylvia A. Earle, globally recognized advocate for oceanic conservation, will be honored for her expansive work to establish marine protected areas or “hope spots” with Care2′s Impact Award at the annual Women In Green Forum in Los Angeles.


PRLog (Press Release) – Aug. 20, 2013 – LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The 4th Annual Women In Green Forum, taking place August 28th in Los Angeles, California, is pleased to announce that Dr. Sylvia A. Earle will be honored with a Care2 Impact Award and named a Women In Green Forum Trailblazer during the highly anticipated keynote luncheon. Each year, the Forum partners with Care2, a cause-based network with over 23 million members, to recognize the achievements of an exceptional environmental leader.  The Care2 Impact Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding impact in sustainability, human rights, animal welfare, women’s rights, and other issues that make the world a better place.

As Founder and Chair of The Sylvia Earle Alliance and the consequent global initiative, Mission Blue, Dr. Earle’s work centers around exploring and protecting the world’s oceans. Dr. Earle’s primary area of focus is in developing a global network of areas on land and in the ocean to preserve biodiversity and provide services that aid in combatting accelerating climate change. Dr. Earle has been on the cutting edge of underwater exploration and led the first team of women aquanauts during the Tektite Project in 1970.

Dr. Earle served as chief scientist at NOAA for over 2 years and has led major nonprofit organizations such as the Aspen Institute, the Conservation Fund, the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and Ocean Futures.  Dr. Earle has a B.S. degree from Florida State University, M.S. and PhD. from Duke University, 22 honorary degrees and has authored more than 180 scientific, technical and popular publications, lectured in more than 70 countries, and appeared in hundreds of radio and television productions. 

Dr. Earle has received over 100 national and international awards during her impressive and extensive career.  As a Care2 Impact Award recipient and Women In Green Forum Trailblazer honoree, Dr. Earle will draw from her extensive background to deliver an acceptance address via recorded video to be shown at at the 2013 Women In Green Forum.

In addition to previewing Dr. Earle’s highly anticipated recorded address, the 2013 Women In Green Forum will offer a dynamic lineup of breakout tracks, skill-building workshops and keynote presentations. Featured speakers include Dr. Ellen Lee of Ford Motor Company, who will discuss her work in the bio-plastics space with Ford’s Plastics Research Team, and Michellene DeBonis of UTA’s the Brand Studio, who will lead a workshop on the importance of storytelling. The Forum will also feature clean technology exhibits and an exclusive clean vehicle Ride and Drive, where attendees will have the opportunity to test drive emerging clean vehicles including cars from Ford’s fleet of EVs and Hybrids.
