Two six-month-old harp seal pups, Zak and Mika, were slated to be killed on September 15. The Aquarium des Iles had captured them from the wild for display purposes only, and once they had no more use for them, planned to kill them. Thanks to the almost 140,000 Care2 members who signed the petition to stop this slaughter, these seals will now be free!
“This achievement can be attributed to public pressure from a viral Care2 petition launched by Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre, Salt Spring Island, BC that garnered more than 140,000 signatures in less than two weeks…” said Jackie Ballerone, Director of the IWNCC, in a statement.
These two innocent animals would have been killed had it not been for the actions of Care2 members. Read about their narrow escape from death on our Causes blog.
