10 Facts You May Not Know About Rachel Maddow

10 Facts You May Not Know About Rachel Maddow

Written by Lesbian.com

As host of MSNBC’s top-rated prime-time show, 37-year-old Rachel Maddow is every lesbian’s favorite news nerd. If you think smart is sexy then Maddow may very well be  the woman of your dreams, but don’t start camping outside of the MSNBC studios in New York quite yet. Maddow and her 52-year-old partner Susan Mikulus have been together since 1999 and there are no signs of turbulance on their airwaves.

Maddow is renowned as a television host, political commentator and author, but we were able to dig up  these 10 facts you may not already know about her.

1. She is the first openly gay anchor of a prime-time news program in the U.S.

2. She was the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship and began her postgraduate study in 1995 at Lincoln College, Oxford.

3. Her first radio hosting job was at WRNX in Holyoke, Massachusetts, after she entered and won a contest the station held to find a new on-air personality.

4. Maddow doesn’t have a television in her Massachusetts weekend home.

5. She characterizes her persona in high school as “a cross between the jock and the antisocial girl.”

6. She was born on April Fool’s Day 1973.

7. Maddow met her partner in 1999 when Mikula hired her to do some yard work.

8. Her middle name is Anne.

9. She claims she’s such a terrible cook that she “can’t cook an egg.”

10. Maddow participated in three sports in high school—softball, soccer and cross-country.

I miss Keith Olbermann, but I miss him less because of Rachel Maddow. My friend Tom can't stand her because she's too 'perky' for him. (Hah!) I love her perkiness. She proves you can report serious news without a hangdog affect.

When Rachel Maddow reports it you know it is factual. That is one reason the weasel Bill O'Reilly won't appear on her show, he knows she can point out his lies with film to back it up.

You know, you got all three high school sports wrong in #10. She played Volleyball, Basketball, and competed in swimming.

This explains a lot of what she represents on her TV show. Thanks for some insight, I just thought she was a real left winger - now I have some insight as to why she might be that liberal. Entertaining but sometimes very annoying. Still, I do watch her on occasion.

I have been listening to, and now watching Rachel Maddow for so many, many years. She is the most intelligent, articulate, intriguing and professional person in political journalism today. My 17-year old daughter has been so motivated by her she now wants to pursue a career in political broadcast journalism and would give anything to intern with her.

Rachel always gets down to the "heart of the matter" and does so with facts to back her up. She is gracious to her guests yet requires them to substantiate their claims and/or beliefs.

And Robert K, I agree, she has the intelligence and knowledge, as does Thom Hartmann. Can you imaging if these two teamed up? I would love to see a political ticket with these 2 included.

And as far as Bill O'Reilly going on her program? Does anyone honestly believe that he could hold a candle to her intelligence and political knowledge? Neither he or his handlers would ever allow him to appear on her program since he only bullies his guests and panders to his right-wing listeners to stir-up their hate and rage. Plus, he must always be in control and Rachel would take this away from him. Although it would be hilarious watching him spontaneously combust with anger.

OH, lets see, there's so much to answer! The easy one's first. If she was born in 1973, yes she's still 37, she WILL BE 38 this year. ONE DOWN! Not knowing how to cook certainly doesn't make HER look vain, in fact, just SMARTER! LET SOME ONE ELSE DO IT, WHY SHOULD SHE? SILLY MAN!! IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF HER, SHAME ON YOU! You must not keep up with the RIGHT news! Not only is she intelligent, her delivery is awesome, watch her any night, MSNBC 9 PM. Mon. to Fri. Now, as for O'Reilly! PULEESE! He doesn't stand a chance with her! She's invited him many times, he's NEVER ACCEPTED! Fixed News can't hold a candle to Rachel Maddow and the whole staff knows it! She's WAY OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE! SORRY, BUT TRUE! IF THAT DAY COMES, I'LL BE WATCHING. BTW, I'M NOT GAY, I'M A MARRIED MOTHER OF 4 AND GRANDMOTHER OF 6! I just happen to appreciate REAL talent and she's the real deal!
