5 Things We Can’t Believe Republican Lawmakers Said This Week

President Donald Trump has set a high bar when it comes to making offensive, racist or just plain baffling statements to the media. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that so many of his fellow Republicans are following in his footsteps.

Either emboldened by their stranglehold on the government or just honestly too corrupt or callous to care, lawmakers are letting their true colors show as they talk about immigration, racism, or their blind, unbreakable loyalty to the President of the United States.

Here are five things we can’t believe Republican lawmakers said in just this past week:

1. “Confederate statue vandals should be lynched”

In the aftermath of the violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, a large number of Confederate statues across the country have been either removed or defaced as a protest against white supremacy. Now one Missouri lawmaker has had enough, and actually suggested lynching one culprit.

“Vandals who threw paint on a Confederate statue in Springfield, Missouri should be ‘hung from a tall tree with a long rope,’ a Missouri lawmaker wrote on Facebook earlier today,” Riverfront Times reported. “State Representative Warren Love (R-Osceola) rapidly deleted the post, but not before it got shared a few times — and not before it was spotted by Democrats.” Love eventually apologized, saying he took his “Western” lingo too seriously since he is in fact the “Cowboy of the Capital.”

2. “The Confederate flag battle is a made up political controversy”

Love isn’t alone in defending the Confederacy this week, either. Iowa Rep. Steve King took a stab at it as well as he defended those who rallied down in Virginia, even though they murdered one protester and injured many others.

“Let’s put that stuff behind us in history,” King said in a local interview, according to Think Progress. “The Civil War was history, the Confederacy was history. There’s a symbol there that means slavery to some, but it means a historical pride in the south in others, and we should be able to look at it as history…It hasn’t been a problem for 150 years, why [did it] emerge now? It looks like it’s politically driven.”

3. “DREAMers Should turn their parents in for deportation”

Of course, the flag comment wasn’t King’s only major offense this week. While debating the removal of the DREAM Act – the Obama era policy that was allowing those who were brought into the country illegally as children to continue to stay in the U.S. without fear of deportation – the Iowa Congressman argued that if DREAMers really want to stay in the country, they should turn their parents into the police for trafficking them into the U.S.

“If it was against their will then it had to be their parents that are responsible,” King said on CNN. “And I’m still waiting for the first DACA recipient to say so and sign an affidavit that says ‘I didn’t really do this of my own accord. My parents brought me in. They should have the law enforced against them. Give me amnesty.’ I’m not hearing that from the DACA people.”

4. “We should just end the Russia probe in 6 months”

The investigation into whether or not the President did in fact collude with Russia in order to game the 2016 presidential race is going stronger than ever, and it’s likely that at least one member of President Trump’s campaign will be in jail by the time it ends. But Trump allies are hopping that end comes as soon as possible, and one even filed a bill to make that happen.

“Representative Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) has reportedly filed an amendment to a House spending bill that could cut off after six months Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia and could block any investigations of events prior to the president’s campaign announcement in June 2015, according to The Hill,” Raw Story reports. “DeSantis, who could be a Florida gubernatorial candidate next year, explained his reasoning for the amendment: ‘Congress should use its spending power to clarify the scope and limit the duration of this investigation,’ he said in a statement to Politico.”

5. “I can give the President info from Wikileaks to clear his name”

Speaking of the Russia probe, there is apparently one man able to prove that Russia had nothing to do with the U.S. election, and he’s willing to channel information from Julian Assange to do it.

“[Republican Rep. Dana] Rohrabacher, who is considered to be among the most pro-Russia members in Congress, met with Assange earlier this month and claims Assange told him that Russia was not involved in the hacking. Rohrabacher said after the meeting that he wanted to brief Trump on what Assange told him. Appearing on the Sean Hannity radio show Monday afternoon, the California congressman said that meeting was in the process of being set up,” CNN reports. “‘It is my understanding from other parties who are trying to arrange a rendezvous with myself and the President, it is being arranged for me to give him the firsthand information from (Assange),’ Rohrabacher said.”

Steve King has always been one of the very Worst of the Worst Republicans!!! Of course, he is no different now! (Furthermore, he also engages in dog fighting!) I wouldn't be surprised at anything he would say or do!! Thanks!

#1. Ok, lynching is way too extreme, tarred and feathered would suffice.
#2. True, it is a made up political controversy.
#3. Well, someone should turn them in.
#4. Ending it tomorrow would not be soon enough.
#5. See # 4.

Regus Give it up. The CIA lied about the Iraq war. Are you really going to trust them? This Russia investigation is phony. Even the Democrats admitted they are corrupt in their recent lawsuit. Most of the Democrats you defend like Nancy Pelosi who is worth 100 million dollars are refusing to support progressive policies that we desperately need in this country, like single payer universal healthcare. The Democrats caused this fraud Trump to be elected by becoming corrupt and corporate owned like the Republicans. Bernie Sanders has long ago disavowed sellout corporate fake Democrats like you, who defend corrupt Democrats like Hillary. Corporate fake Democrats like you are really not much better than Republicans, and are the reason why this fraud Trump got elected, after the Democrats cheated Bernie Sanders out of his primary. I really think you are mentally unbalanced. There is no evidence that Russia interfered in our elections, and you keep claiming there is, so you can deflect attention about the criminality and corruption of Hillary, and the Democratic party. As always, you are a complete imbecile.
