2. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)

The tragic death of Candice Lightner’s 13-year-old daughter by a drunk driver prompted her to found MADD. Publicity in the form of a 1983 television movie about Lightner helped the organization grow rapidly, and soon, under MADD’s influence, the National Minimum Drinking Age Act was enacted.

Since MADD’s founding in 1980, the death rate from alcohol-related traffic accidents has declined—according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), alcohol-related deaths per year have decreased from 26,173 in 1982 to 16,885 in 2005.

Sorry, but this "go Moms" thing is a bit weird -- there's a heck of a lot of women out there that do amazing things but don't have to trumpet the fact that they are also mothers. Kudos to these particular women who have created or inspired these good causes, but the "Moms are more special" thing is just annoying and smug.

Can't we just celebrate the achievements of people in general?

Women are the hope of the future; it's their compassion, caring, nurturing and creative natures that will eventually be critical in turning things around on this planet.

That's why I get sad when I see young women 'fighting' for the right to be in the front line of warfare. We need your female wisdom, not more of the testosterone fed insanity that creates wars. But I'm also for freedom of choice and against gender bias, so I guess if that floats your boat, you should be entitled to follow that path. We miss you, though.

Thanks for this.
Women are strong, smart and get things done.

Unless women start organizing to fight climate change, then all these other so-called changes won't amount to anything. Social progress is only possible if the people are still alive.
