Last night’s State of the Union speech was met with the usual partisan bickering afterwards. But one moment that went beyond party politics? The memorable entrance of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who announced her retirement earlier this week. Giffords, who was nearly killed in an assassination attempt last January, shared a warm hug with the President before the address began.
And today, Giffords, assisted by tearful Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, handed in her resignation after one last moment on the floor, and a tribute from her colleagues.

+ add your ownI hope Gabby continues to improve and can come back one day in the future. God love her.
Thanks. I'm gladdened to see that Ms. Giffords has recovered as much as she has, and that she plans on working towards as full a recovery as possible. I wish her all the best in her continued rehab. I have a feeling this is not the last we have seen of her in the political arena. I hope not.
she's doing so great, her healing (and the healing of all victims of gun violence) are in my thoughts/prayers
I am glad that she was not taken away, although it is a victory of the forces of hate that she has to resign. At a minimum asking for gun laws that keep firearms out of the hands of the obviously mentally ill is common sensical and does not amount to trying to take away the right to bear arms.
Hope her recovery continues.
Why are people like him so easily influenced by the republican messages?
Elizabeth K. - The man was bipolar and mentally deficient. I stand by my prior post. Be well.
A 23-year-old man, Jared Lee Loughner, has pleaded not guilty to 49 charges in the shooting. He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and is being forcibly medicated at a Missouri prison facility in an effort by authorities to make him mentally ready for trial.
Joe V., the shooting was politically motivated, so impossible to remove.
And why is it that the more immature in their thinking people are, the more they tell others to grow up?
Never think the right has learned its lesson and toned down the violent rhetoric because of the attempt to assassinate Gabby Giffords after her district was marked with crosshairs.
It's already happening again. Please see the article I just posted at:

The day before Gabby resigned, five Missouri state senators, four of them women, were targeted with crosshairs over their nameplates in the state house.
Maurice S., Grow Up! All of you, can't you remove politics from your lives for a second or two or are you that prejudiced and get a high on your pompous uncalled diatribe....
