A Farewell To Giffords [VIDEOS]

A Farewell To Giffords [VIDEOS]

Last night’s State of the Union speech was met with the usual partisan bickering afterwards. But one moment that went beyond party politics? The memorable entrance of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who announced her retirement earlier this week. Giffords, who was nearly killed in an assassination attempt last January, shared a warm hug with the President before the address began.

And today, Giffords, assisted by tearful Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, handed in her resignation after one last moment on the floor, and a tribute from her colleagues.

I hope Gabby continues to improve and can come back one day in the future. God love her.

Thanks. I'm gladdened to see that Ms. Giffords has recovered as much as she has, and that she plans on working towards as full a recovery as possible. I wish her all the best in her continued rehab. I have a feeling this is not the last we have seen of her in the political arena. I hope not.

she's doing so great, her healing (and the healing of all victims of gun violence) are in my thoughts/prayers

I am glad that she was not taken away, although it is a victory of the forces of hate that she has to resign. At a minimum asking for gun laws that keep firearms out of the hands of the obviously mentally ill is common sensical and does not amount to trying to take away the right to bear arms.

Hope her recovery continues.

I want her to get well enough to replace Jan Brewer... and go on up the ladder from there.

If Boehner hadn't cried, I'd have called him a heart of stone. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's raw and very real emotion in reading Gabby's letter made it all the more poignant. How anyone could have sat through it without tears is beyond me.

For all the emotion and sentiment of the moment, Gabby has to have the heart of a lion to have been able to come back as she has. I wish her all the best in her continued recovery.

This is one occasion when Boehner was crying for an appropriate reason, and while watching this I became a little choked up and misty eyed ,too. Tuesday Rachel Maddow showed Gabby's entire "I'll return " video which was so uplifting. THAT SMILE. It's so genuine, and after all that Gabby's been through. My sister, brother in law and children and grandchildren have the good fortune of actually knowing Gabby, who was their Congresswoman.
