Note: This is another part in our Activist Spotlight series, where we shine a light on Care2 members who are making a difference in their communities.
Cher Clarke has always been concerned about impacting the world in a positive way. She is inspired when people wake up and see their own light, and nothing distresses her more than people who take advantage of those who are weak. She is passionate about protecting wildlife, particularly tigers. So when she found Care2 a few years ago, it was a natural fit. Today, she remains one of our most active, influential members, sharing important news with the world via Care2′s News Networks (C2NN) and forming part of the core of our online community.
Q. Where are you from?
A. I was born in London, and raised in Ontario, Canada.
Q. Tell me a little about how your childhood/background has influenced what you are doing today.
A. All my life I have been helping animals and the environment. I used to go door to door with petitions before the internet was an available resource. I have always been involved with the rescue and rehabilitation of animals, both wild and domestic — mostly squirrels and raccoons.
Q. What issues are you most passionate about? Why?
A. I care mostly about the extinction of wildlife, especially the tiger. I am a tiger in the Chinese horoscope, and have been passionate about them my whole life. I spread awareness to everyone I know all the time! If something isn’t done, our future generations won’t know about them, and that would be so sad.
Q. What is the hardest thing about your life as an activist?
A. The hardest thing is seeing all the suffering. I have worked at shelters and veterinarian clinics, and volunteered for various groups. It kills me to see so many animals suffer! I wish I could do more!
Q. What developments have you seen lately that bring you the most hope?
A. I have seen, on more than one occasion, the power of the people and the way we can change things with our voices. I have been contacted by the media, wanting to know more about certain subjects I have posted about.
Q. What do you see as your greatest accomplishment?
A. One of my greatest accomplishments would have to be helping close down a company that was shipping monkeys to labs for experiments. After posting a petition, I was contacted by the press and they posted the issue in their local newspaper. Within two days, the company had been closed.
Q. What keeps you coming back to Care2?
A. I love Care2, what it stands for, and I love all my friends here; they rock!

Cher gives everyone her all and the awareness that she brings with her posts and petitions is mind boggling. If we had an entire nation of Chers, we could save the world.
