Alabama Pastor Holds ‘Whites Only’ Conference

Alabama Pastor Holds ‘Whites Only’ Conference

Written by Annie-Rose Strasser

All loving Christians are invited to celebrate the word of God at Rev. William Collier’s annual conference — that is, as long and they are white.

Collier’s Alabama town is outraged over the flyer for his pastors’ conference, which specifies “All White Christians Invited.” The town’s mayor is renouncing the Reverend, saying that such hate speech is unwelcome in the town. But Collier defended the flyer this week, saying that he isn’t a racist — just that “the white race is God’s chosen people”:

The organizer of the event, Rev. William C. Collier says that his Church of God’s Chosen (Christian Identity Ministries) is not a hate group but adds that he believes “the white race is God’s chosen people.”

Collier defends why only white Christians are invited.

“We don’t have the facilities to accommodate other people. We haven’t got any invitations to black, Muslim events. Of course we are not invited to Jewish events and stuff,” Collier said.

Collier does not specify what sort of special “facilities” people of color may need, but the line harkens back to old southern segregation, when water fountains and bathrooms had “whites only” signs similar to Collier’s flyer.

The church hosting the conference is named Christian Identity Ministries. This is the third annual conference — and the Ku Klux Klan is among the attendees this year. The founder of the church, Rev. Mel Lewis, complained that this year’s uproar shows a disrespect for religious liberty.

Sounds as if this event is totally illegal. Certainly in his delusional mind his assertion that the white race is God's Chosen but in reality he is only defending a pathetic and bigoted ideology that helped lead to the Civil War.

Racists, bigots, oppressors, sexists, abusers all use God and Religion as their watch words and excuse when defending the indefensible! What else is new. Sad and pathetic.

Jesus was definitely not a Palestinian. He was Jew, and the ancestor, according to biblical scholars and believers of Jews was Abraham, who was not from that area. In fact, most Palestinians are not native to this area either, because their ancestors did not arrive in the area until after the Muslim conquest of what is now Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. As for race, religion, ethnicity, etc. I would suggest that people should agree that their is only one race--the Human Race. If we can agree to that, then we can see that ethnicity covers many people of different shades and differing countries. We can see that different religions also include people from different countries and ethnic groups. There is an intermingling within the social ethos which militates against the concept of "The Other". This is the struggle of today, and if I may put it bluntly, it may be stated as follows. The concept of the Other is based on distrust and hatred, because of differences. The concept of the Human Race is based on samenesses and a recognition of these samenesses in others. Militant religion is based on the "Other" and is detrimental to mental health, to the common weal, and to world peace. The sooner human beings learn these lessons, the sooner hatred will disappear. Hillel said it best - "Do not do to another, that which is hateful to you. That is the law. All else is commentary."

Joshua says: "the heart of the lord is mercy. for those who think they will enter the kingdom of heaven because of their color of their skin or any other superficial characteristic will be the last to come close to the lords mercy."

Joshua, think about this. If your biological father abandoned you and your mother; never met you, never called you, never fed you or played with you and lives in the same town; wouldn't you question how much he loved you? And if all you have from him is some confusing letters written before you were born, all of which contradict one another and are subject to a vast array of interpretations, would you consider that love or would you think that maybe Dad was on drugs when he wrote them?

What do you really know, I mean REALLY KNOW about this "Lord" who abandoned his own son on the cross (so that his son would call out: "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?") and abandoned his own CHOSEN PEOPLE in the Holocaust???? Is there ANY REASON whatsoever to trust him or think that he has something better for us in the Great Beyond when he hasn't intervened or done a blessed thing in 2000 year? What do we really know of God other than what is written in books by men who have never seen or met God either. You might just as well pray to Julius Caesar.

the heart of the lord is mercy. for those who think they will enter the kingdom of heaven because of their color of their skin or any other superficial characteristic will be the last to come close to the lords mercy. everyone is invited at the lords table , poor , rich, white, black ,yellow, any body,. the lord is not looking at your color, he is looking at your heart, he is asking us to not just open up our mind to open our hearts.. and to love our neighbors as ourselves. and to pray for those who dont agree with our thinking according to the scriptures.. so invite god in to your lives.. and pray for those who cant help themselves even William Collier.

William D says: "Jesus Christ was a Palestinian, so rather brown skinned (go look for yourself and you'll see)!

Don't tell Zionists that; they insist that there has been an unbroken chain of Jewish rule and occupancy in that area for 3000 years. Of course the Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Romans and Ottomans don't agree, but yes, the area that Jesus was born in and lived in was PALESTINE, not Israel, and it was ruled by Rome, but he was Jewish by ethnicity and religion. Jews and Palestinians are certainly darker than Brits or French, but they sure as heck aren't Nubians.

The only white men I know are snow men; I didn't know they were religious (but they'll smelt and quickly fade away)!

Proud to be grandmother to Latino-Amer. granddaughter, Korean-Amer. grandson and great grandmother to Filipino-Amer. brother & sister. And, surprisingly, I live in Alabama. So we're not ALL ignorant racists.

Antonia said: "...So he's not thinking of Jewish people as being 'white' - meaning that someone like Jesus would indeed be excluded."

That's because he is ignorant, Antonia and subscribes to KKK thinking which in addition to excluding blacks, also excludes Jews and Homosexuals. So a gay albino man as white as the new fallen snow would not be welcome at his meeting, LOL

Rest assured that the only thing "christian" about this "church" is the name. Nothing else really relates to Christianity as pretty much everyone else would understand it and they are not in communion, or even regarded in any way positively, by the mainstream church. They are just a white supremacist movement set up in the early 20th century.

I was quite taken with an earlier comment that pointed out that Jesus, being both Jewish and middle Eastern (ie. non-white) is hardly the most plausible of people for them to support.

What a great dog, and the man must be pretty great too to deserve such devotion!

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful story.

A pox on the people in Washington, who kept this position vacant for so long.
