Victory for baby seals in Russia!
posted by: Rebecca Young 248 days ago

The global campaign to end brutal hunting of baby seals is working. Just today, Russia announced a complete ban on all hunting of harp seals less than one year of age, reports IFAW (The International Fund for Animal Welfare).
"The bloody seal slaughter, the killing of the defenseless animals, which can't be even called a 'hunt,' is now prohibited in Russia as it is in most developed countries," said Yuri Trutnev, Russia's Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology. "It is a serious step towards the conservation of biodiversity in Russia."
This historic end to Russia's harp seal hunt is a victory for activists and organizations like IFAW who have worked so hard to end commercial seal hunts all over the world.
And with the European Parliament's consideration of an EU-wide ban on seal products coming next month, pressure is growing on Canada to ban its commercial seal hunt for good. You can take action here to call on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to end Canada's commercial seal hunt now.

"Russia announced a complete ban on all hunting of harp seals less than one year of age" - What happens to seals that reach the age of one and older? Do I understand correctly that their killing is postponed to when they grow older? Praying to be wrong.

All I can say is that 1% of the people who took the poll must either be brain dead or hopelessly stupid . I just wish the seals could fight back .

Sad to know that this is the latest news about the seal hunt in Canada:
Canada increases seal hunt quota
Posted Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:26am AEDT
Canada has announced that it will increase this year's quota for its annual seal hunt, even as the European Union moves closer to imposing a ban on seal products.
The fisheries minister says another 55,000 seals will be hunted this year, bringing the total quota to 338,000.
The ministry says it reached that figure after consulting scientists on how to ensure that the seal population of 6.5 million is maintained.
Canada's Humane Society has criticised the Government's decision, saying the last time the quota was set this high the number of harp seals fell by two-thirds within a decade.

We are trying very hard to not eat animals, of any kind. It is difficult because we grew up in the 50's, 60's, 70's when meat was a common meal. I have worked very hard to prevent the horrible treatment of animals - farm animals, and the prevention of such cruelty of circus animals. I have a poster of an elephant, chained, in my front porch window. We do what we can to prevent such cruelty to ALL animals. Rose and Ron Palozola

Well, this is wonderful news. Let's hope it makes Canada feel like the sub humans they really are when even a country like Russia is banning the slaughter of baby seals. Of course do agree, why kill them at all at any age. Who still uses seal products. Well, maybe with the EU looking to ban seal products, hopefully there will be no market for Canada. To all of those that kill baby seals for a living, for heavens sake, this is the 21st century, get a real job. How can you kill seal babies to feed your own kids. Bloodmoney.
As for the 1% of people voting to keep on killing the seals, are you some subhuman species or what? And what are sickos like you doing on a website like this???
