Anti-Choice Terrorists?

Anti-Choice Terrorists?

When Scott Roeder shot Dr. George Tiller in church last year, media accounts described him as a lone wolf. Roeder acted alone on the day of the assassination, but he was part of a community of career anti-choice terrorists, as Amanda Robb reports in Ms. Magazine.

A community of radical, anti-abortion activists

Over the course of 6 months, Robb interviewed Roeder over a dozen times. She met with his allies at the court house. She even got permission to sit in on phone calls between Roeder and his friends. Robb’s exhaustive investigation revealed that Roeder had for years been enmeshed in a community of radical, anti-abortion activists, many of whom have committed acts of terrorism ranging from clinic arson to butyric acid attacks to murder.

Roeder was not a card-carrying member of any mainstream anti-abortion organization, but he drove to the scene of the crime with the number of Operation Rescue’s senior policy adviser on his dashboard.

Robb’s intensive reporting was supported by the investigative fund of the Nation Institute.

The enemy in your pants

Sexually transmitted infections (STI) are one of the oldest security threats in the history of warfare. During the Second World War, the U.S. military launched a PR offensive to teach recruits how to avoid venereal disease. Syphilis was a special concern because penicillin didn’t become available until after the war. Elizabeth Gettelman and Mark Murrmann of Mother Jones present an entertaining slide show of classic military sex ed posters.

And now for something completely different

The board of directors of the National Association of Evangelicals (NEA), which represents more than 40 denominations with millions of members, unanimously approved a resolution that listed increased access to contraception as one acceptable strategy for lowering the abortion ration.

Robin Marty of RH Reality Check suggests that contraception might be a wedge issue within the anti-choice community. The NEA is already getting pushback from more conservative forces within the movement and the Catholic Church remains unshakably opposed to contraception.

What about the workers?

The seemingly unstoppable oil geyser in the Gulf of Mexico has captivated national attention. But, as Mike Lillis of the Washington Independent reports, the lives of oil workers are being forgotten in the face of the ongoing ecological disaster. Eleven people died in the blast that set the spill in motion and dozens more were injured. Oil rigs are among the most dangerous places to work, but nobody is listening:

“The worker safety issue has been completely lost in this story,” said Tom O’Connor, executive director of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, an advocacy group. “It’s one of the biggest industrial disasters in recent history, and yet Congress [views it] the same as the public: They’re not seeing it as a worker safety issue.”

The rig workers aren’t the only ones at risk. As I report for Working In These Times, oil spill cleanup workers are complaining that BP isn’t giving them the personal protective equipment they need to work with oil and dispersant. Some say they’re already getting sick.

Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-La) whose coastal district is one of the closest to the rig, is lobbying Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to set up mobile clinics for rescue workers and volunteers. Care2 has more information on the exchanges between Sebelius and BP regarding workers’ health.

In AlterNet, Amanda Terkel reports that cleanup worker John Wunstell, Jr. filed an injunction against BP after his oil-soaked clothes were confiscated when he sought treatment at a local clinic. Wuntsell wants BP to stop “altering, testing, or destroying” any evidence from workers who become ill.

I am pro-life, but being violent with those who disagree only sets back what other peaceful people have worked so hard to accomplish. Hate and violence doesn't accomplish anything, except to produce even more hate and violence.

And could someone please send me a personal message if they can explain the reason for the Catholic church to disagree with contraception.

I can't stand abortion, but this murder was not the answer to anything. As a prolifer, I do not see how this benefited the prolife movement in any way shape or form. All it did was kill another person.

No one has the RIGHT to take the life of any person especially and innocent victim who did not harm or injure YOU in anyway.. We have no right to JUDGE who is right and who is wrong. We should leave THAT to GOD Almighty. No PRIEST, POPE, RABBI, MAULANA,KING, FATHER, MOTHER or anyone else is going to ANSWER for the DEEDS of Another human being be it good or bad. Each one will be liable for their OWN SELF. So what is THE PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE who interfere in the personal lives of others. They NEED to ADOPT the "LIVE AND LET LIVE" into their own lives. .

We in Islam have the same problem. People who only THINK they are RELIGIOUS try to ENFORCE distorted version of THEIR OWN understanding and thinking of ISLAM onto others thus perpetrating EVIL and VIOLENT acts against Fellow Human Beings.

Our QURAN is very CLEAR when it says
1) «There is no compulsion in religion, for the truth has been made manifest from the false» (2:255)
Which means there is no place for the use of compulsion or FORCE any to accept your religion or its teachings..
2) «And call to the way of your Lord with the judgment and beautiful admonitions, and dispute with them with that which is beautiful...» (16:125)
This verse has stated clearly the way for Islam to be embraced.. Yet IGNORANT followers hurt , maim and kill even their own if they DONT WISH to follow. ISLAMICALLY, IT IS A SIN to enforce anything onto anyone.

3) «The truth is from your Lord, so whoever has the WILL so he must REJECT...» (18:29)
Means Whoever wants to believe will believe, and whoever wants to be a non-believer will be a non–believer. So this verse has also stated that faith and rejection can only be chosen by ONESELF; they CANNOT be FORCED upon one by others. THEY ARE GIVEN a FREE WILL; THE FREEDOM OF CHOICE even by GOD HIMSELF so WHY are some PEOPLE trying to PLAY God.
HOW can people be called RELIGIOUS when they are acting AGAINST the WORD of GOD. Each individual should know the difference between Right and Wrong

The religious right ignore the fact that freedom of religion came from liberal thinkers.Conservatives were adamantly opposed. religion is based on faith ; not facts. The most fervent believers , it would appear, actually think that freedom of religion gives them the right , also , to eliminate , diminish , or deny ; the rights of others. A number of years ago , SCOTUS ruled :" At the heart of liberty is the right to define ones own concept of existence , of the meaning of the universe , & of the mystery of human life." It's not that difficult to get people to act inappropriately , when hounded by disreputable leaders exploiting the fear most common to humanity : what happens to us ; if anything; after we die? There is only one verse in the Bible which is absolute truth. The rest is up for grabs. That verse says " Remember man that thou art dust & unto dust thou shall return ."

I am a follower of Christ. I never condone violence. I don't believe abortion is the best way to go, except in special circumstances. But, the law is the law and I don't see how these anti-choice terrorist find killing other humans any better than aborting babies. This is not how Jesus would have handled this situation. He didn't teach violence. His message is peace.

Some of the "Religious Right" are out of their minds and brainwashing others. It's like a virus or something! Not all Christians are fanatics, though! Religious freedom is a wonderful gift in our great nation of America. It's too bad some feel they are above the law or holier than others. No matter ones' belief system we should honor their right to it, as long as it hurts no one. There are extremists in nearly all faiths. Sad!

I pray that we could all just work together as one for peace!

So violence is no answer to anything?

Convene a special meeting of the city fathers of Carthage. I'm sure they will be DELIGHTED to learn that. And be sure to tell Adolph Hitler's Nazi successor in the Thousand Year Reich ruling Germany. He should know it too. And the President of the Confederate States of America.

Violence is never the answer to anything? What a bunch of crap.
