Arizona Senate Passes Planned Parenthood Funding Ban

Arizona Republicans moved forward with attempts to de-fund Planned Parenthood as the Senate approved a measure barring the use of any public money from being “funneled” to the health care provider because it performs abortions.

The prohibition approved Tuesday would affect funding for family planning and preventative care services.

The legislation is completely disingenuous and threatens the health of Arizona’s most vulnerable. State law already bars the use of public money for abortions. This broader prohibition simply is an effort to try and drive the women’s health care provider out of business.

Planned Parenthood anticipates the ban would disrupt the health care services for approximately 19,000 women. A similar ban in Texas has prompted legal challenges, but that hasn’t stopped Republicans in other states from still trying to strip Planned Parenthood of funding.

Efforts to de-fund Planned Parenthood must be placed in context with the Republican attacks on expanded health care coverage in general because it illustrates the driving philosophy that safe, affordable health care is a privilege afforded only to the rich. Arizona now joins the list of states intent on punishing poor women simply for being poor.

I don't understand why people think the govt/people should pay taxes to cover free birth control so people can have recreational sex. As an atheist, it's purely logic, no silly religious beliefs. If you want to mess around, buy your own birth control!!

What do you expect from Republicans? Fairness and the ability to provide social services? If you do you're living with ET and Peter Pan. Vote for Democrats and get the Republicans out of office in every state at every opportunity.

If more women don't realize that THEIR rights are swiftly being taken away by the narrow minded politicians, and if they don't act by voting them out of office, there will come a day when women will ask themselves, what happened to my rights?? By that time it will be too late. The future of women who have to put up with all this injustice of being attacked on contraception, abortion, and closing the Planned Parenthood offices which have helped with cancer screenings, pregnancies and many others is leading them down the path to second class citizenship. Sex Education should be MANDATORY. Women have so much power but they don't realize it, and if they do they don't use it. If women went on strike in the kitchen and the bedroom, I believe things would change quickly and for the better. Look at the voting records of all the politicians and use the Power of YOUR VOTE to keep the politicians that are fighting for your equal rights in and remove any politician of any party that tries to take away your rights. Use Google and utube to find answers for your questions. I Googled if Romney was ever for abortions and found out in 2002 he was definitely PRO CHOICE . Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

John Z. Where on earth do you get the ridiculous idea that babies are being torn limb by limb inside their mothers???
Planned Parenthood does not "promote promiscuity" as you say. They simply provide birth control for those who need it. By your logic, any pharmacy, hospital, or even general store would be "promoting promiscuity" because they sell birth control such as pill form, condoms, spermicide, etc. You cannot deny the human race sex, so saying that anyone who can't afford this can't have sex is EXTREMELY unrealistic. It's a basic instinct, and it will be fulfilled whether the person is married or not. What if someone is married and can't afford the birth control?? Are you going to deny them birth control and force them to have countless children they cannot afford to keep?

You fight for these unborn babies, but will you continue to support them after birth?
