Bombshell: Former Walker Aide Leaked Investigation Information

Tim Russell, a former aide who has been described as “a strange mixture of Gordon Liddy and H.R. Haldeman to [Wisconsin Gov. Scott] Walker’s Nixon,” was behind a leak of a document that indicated that Walker has been stonewalling an investigation into his time as Milwaukee County Executive.

“Today’s revelation removes any doubt that Scott Walker is the target of a criminal prosecution,” said Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Mike Tate, in a statement.

The revelation came out during Russell’s trial for the theft of tens of thousands of dollars from Operation Freedom, a charity honoring veterans.

Walker has always maintained that he was cooperative with the investigation, but the document indicated that Walker stonewalled prosecutors, prompting them to open a “John Doe” investigation into his office.

In the document, Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf wrote, “It may be the County Executive’s Office is reluctant to provide information to investigators due to a fear of political embarrassment.”

In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Ciara Matthews, spokesperson for the Walker campaign, disputed the document’s veracity.

“Multiple follow-ups were made by [Walker's] chief of staff to the district attorney’s office to offer assistance in that investigation, and any statement to the contrary is not correct,” she said.

The fact that the document was leaked by a former aide, one who was very close to Walker, undermines that claim significantly.

The revelation comes on the eve of a recall election in which Walker faces the very real possibility of being removed from office. A recent poll by Public Policy Polling shows Walker holding a slim lead over his Democratic challenger, Tom Barrett.

Whether the revelation impacts the results of the election are unclear, but they lend credence to reports that Walker is himself a target of investigation, and that he could be indicted in a matter of months.

“If Republicans are wondering who is leaking information about crimes that Scott Walker may have committed, they need only look into their own house,” Tate said. “That Scott Walker’s longtime and closest political aide, who is charged with stealing from veterans, is the source of information undercutting Walker’s self-serving claims of cooperation shows with crystal clarity just why Wisconsin must remove Scott Walker from office tomorrow.”

Interesting that the people on Care2 are the only correct people in the US. Gee I wonder how all those darn Republicans get in office. If we had all Democrats then the government would take care of us from birth to grave. I wonder where all hte money wiill come from? Stupid me me asking stupid questions, they would jsut borrow it until they get their millions and then vote in some other party to figure it out. :-)

Bill, this is rhetoric from 40 years ago, its meaningless in this situation.

We have people who WANT to work accepting some form of assistance. because they have children to feed, NOT because they want to sit on their asses doing noting.

When we can force someone to bring jobs back to this country you won't have to worry about someone stealing your taxes. WE NEED JOBS not insults from a man living back in the 50s.

The republican voters in Wisc, are like abused women. They keep going back to the abuser, thinking he will change, when he lies to them. Of course he doesn't, and beats them up again.

Thank you for the insults as it does prove that the results of Wisconsin are irritating the freeloaders that eat from the public pig slop. Milking our government for all they can. Sad, sad and sad.

Walker is another empty suit, like Romney is and Bush was. If Romney wins, the Koch bros and Rove will be our next president. He'll just sit on their lap, with their hands up his ass.

Sorry, but It wasn't at all the "people" of Wisconsin who did this, it was the criminals and the brainwashed ignorants of Wisconsin who voted Walker, who has the personality of a criminal psychopath, back in to wreak havoc in their state. Hopefully this peculiar Wisconsin disease will be quarantined there and not spread to other states.

I will thank you for all the people of Wisconsin as they voted to continue to keep Wisconsin in the Black and manage for the people not the Unions.

God Bless Wisconsin

Paul B. is the reason psychopaths become elected politicians in America. Paul B. is the reason why the world environment is dying and most of American society is becoming third world. The depth of stupidity and immorality of his gang of rednecks is disgusting, as they march in step to the party line and offer themselves up be raised as middle class meat for the immoral rich and the Koch brothers. There are too many of these moronic redneck, gun loving selfish planet destroyers infecting Wisconsin (one of the redneck states I will never set foot in with their certifiably insane state government). Wisconsin reflects the disease infecting the world.

Lee, I would like to see some data on your so called fat cats stashing money off shore, and for every Republican you find, I will match you with Democrats.

I am afraid you are using the DNC talking points with nothing to back up the points or how to temper the fat cat Democrats??

Interesting, maybe I should start my list with Soros and Gore right off the top of my head. Thank you for the idea.
