People ask a lot of questions about food: What does it taste like? How many calories does it have? And who cooked it?
One of the questions we need to ask (but rarely do) is, “Where did it come from?”
The disintegration and sterilization of our relationship with food is only one of the pressing topics that will be featured in a new PBS program called Nourish: Food + Community.
The show will be hosted by actress Cameron Diaz, whom some will remember as the spirited host of the green travel show “Trippin’” that aired on MTV.
Unlike many of the foodie shows on television today, which are little more than live-action recipe cards, Nourish will enlist food movement all-stars like Michael Pollan, Alice Waters, Jamie Oliver, and Anna Lappé to help audiences understand the impact of their food choices.
Watch the Nourish trailer!
Just watching a show won’t solve what’s wrong with the food system, which is why the creators of Nourish have taken the program way beyond the screen.
A project of WorldLink, an Emmy Award-winning media group, Nourish is actually a multi-year media and education initiative enhanced by collaboration with more than 40 organizations dedicated to creating a sustainable food future.
Those who want to get involved with the Nourish initiative can check out the DVD for sale, middle- and high school curriculum materials, and a website intended to become a hub for information and action.
If you use iTunes, you can also listen to nine podcast episodes for free.

Interesting.
@ Tori W:" it's not different than watching them in any other movie..it isn't real"
Er...I think you'll find that actors and actresses do actually exist in real life, and that some of them *even* care about the planet on which we all live, and the sustainability of our lifestyles. This programme is a DOCUMENTARY (look it up) examining the sustainability of our diets. As the article above states, Cameron Diaz has done TV programs about green travel in the past so I think she's at least partially earned some credit in that sense.
Your attitude of "oh well, if a star who's getting paid supports it, I'm not interested." seems to be an excuse to avoid the issue. Nice.
Any method of getting the message out there and across to people who hadn't previously considered it is worthwhile.
I'm not a fan of Leo DiCaprio but his film 11th Hour was a worthwhile and well made piece. I'm not going to ignore it just because I don't like the frontman!
Tori, I hate to break it to you but PBS is PUBLIC BROADCAST TV, not hollywood, I doubt Cameron Diaz is even getting paid. Cynicism isn't goingto get us anywhere
thanks
don't count on me to be interested...why would i want to believe what actors or actresses say because they are paid to say it?? it's not different than watching them in any other movie..it isn't real...not interested...
thanks for the info
In answer to some comments here, no, this program will not be everything we want to see. But remember, we who are reading this right now are the enlightened, we are the one questioning what is around us. This program is meant to reach those who don't even know to question. I believe from what I have seen here that it can make a good start. We need to support this program and PBS in general so that those new to this information, get it.
Thanks
