Chelsea Clinton: Congresswoman, No. Correspondent? Yes.

Chelsea Clinton: Congresswoman, No. Correspondent? Yes.

It seems that the “Chelsea Clinton is having a seat in Congress prepped for her” rumors are finally over. The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former New York Senator and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced her newest gig for the near future, and it doesn’t involve a 2012 run of any type.

It’s television.

Via The Hill, the former First Daughter has taken a job as a correspondent with NBC, becoming the face of a special series for NBC Nightly News called “Making a Difference.” The series will involve segments about volunteers across America.

The station spoke glowingly of the new correspondent and all that she has to offer, besides, of course, having a famous name to help bring in ratings. “‘Chelsea Clinton has led a remarkable life. She possesses an uncommon understanding of humanity on city streets, across this country and around the globe. We are so excited she’s joining us to tell the stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things,’ said ‘Nightly News’ anchor Brian Williams in a statement.”

So, running for office is obviously on the back burner for now. Although, when she disappears from the screen, then you can start the speculation all over again.

I'll look forward to hearing her and watching her. She's an intelligent young woman and her parents must be very proud of her!

Chelsea is young; she has a long time to decide whether she will be in politics. I imagine she will; the apple or the acorn doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Hi Sharon-I agree Chelsea seems very nice, intelligent and well grounded but, in truth, neither of her parents' backgrounds are pristine examples of virtue but actually somewhat cut-throat to have attained their current status & they have had a lot of somewhat questionable background dealings. While they may appear virtuous superficially, I rather doubt anyone successful in politics is as pure as the driven snow. Nobody in politics attains great heights without shady deals. Chelsea is also married to someone who has a background in high finance which may or may not be totally ethical...after all, look at the current banking deceptions & slimy deals (hedge funds/sub-prime mortgages/bailouts) as the cause of the Wall Street Occupation. Big finance and politics are both as crooked as a dog's leg. While Chelsea may be a virtuous individual, I don't see how people like her and Meaghan McCain, another recipient of benefits by her name, can truly comprehend what the average person is currently experiencing and report on it realistically. Other than that, all the best in her endeavours but she obviously did not attain her position without the help of the Clinton name and that in itself is not right although common practice..

I like Chelsea. She is a nice young woman who is grounded in reality. When she got married, she could have had a big, lavish wedding with all of the media & hundreds of celebrities attending. Instead, she chose to have a small, private ceremony where the guests were family and friends. Some people like to criticize because when her father was President, she attended a private school. So have all Presidents' children. Trying to keep a President's child safe in a huge public school would have been a security nightmare. When her parents were going through the Monica thing, Chelsea was the peacemaker and kept her family together. I loved the clip on the news several weeks ago, where she interviewed her father. I thought she did a very good job. I wish her all the best and hope that she'll be happy in her new job.

Linda, don't you remember when the likes of Rush were making fun of her when she was still a kid? I think her mother has probably kept her pretty grounded in reality. Neither Bill or Hilary came from a silver spoon background and while they, like most parents want a better life for their kids, I don't think she was a spoiled rich kid brat. They gave her a good foundation in spite of all the crap going on in their lives and I think it shows in the way she carries herself and speaks. I would hate to condemn her before ever giving her a chance...

I feel Chelsea can report realistically because of her upbringing - Her parents have always been involved in volunteering and helping others. I grew up in a middle-class home and I was and am compassionate to those less fortunate -- just because I didn't grow up in the slums doesn't mean that I cannot have knowledge and be sincere!

Nothing against her as a person but with her privileged background and her marriage to Mr. Hedge Fund, I wonder how she can possibly report realistically and empathize with the average person on the street. I have heard quotes from her similar to Herman "the moron" Cain that in "America" you can succeed with hard work. Yeah, right. I know she is clever and well educated but that does not mean she is in touch with the realities of the common person not unlike the Fox idiots. It is time the media had people who might actually be removed from under the thumb of the elite but that will not happen soon as it would not suit the agenda of the upper class.....yes, there definitely is an upper class in the US and it controls the media completely. Oligarchy is alive and well in the US. Sure you can get ahead with hard work....that is if you have the right connections.

If only John John hadn't been killed during his last flight, he might have been the fledgling who could have led the country, her being a Clinton doubt is enough for the task.

As for the idea that Hillary is waiting for an announcement that she is going to be a grandmother, I hope they are smart enough to know that with 7 billion people currently in the world NO ONE should reproduce for a quite a while. Someone should be a leader in that regard and I hope Chelsea is one of them.

Thomas....I'm guessing you're a devoted FOX watcher and if that's so, then you know first hand about liars in the media. And, how can you say something like that about a young woman who is just starting her career and has never given anyone cause to think that she's anything like you described? What do you think about Bristol Palin being in the spotlight in a reality show? Does she have the sterling integrity you hold so dear? She's shown her true colors a long time ago...oh, but she's a Republican's daughter, so that's totally different, huh?
