Since a picture of Sgt. Brandon Morgan kissing his partner Dalan Wells upon his homecoming to Hawaii went viral on the Internet, the couple has received a lot of well wishes. In an interview with Honolulu’s KHON2 News they want to bring the focus back to how, in reality, this is just like any other welcome-home kiss, though the couple does say they hope that their story, and particularly Brandon’s success, might send a positive message of hope to LGBT teens.
Speaking to reporters, Morgan insisted: “I’m not a hero. The heroes are the ones that paved the way for me, to allow me to do this. It’s people who fought in Congress and who fought to have equal rights who allowed me to even do this. They’ve always been my heroes. We haven’t fought for more rights or better rights than others, we fought for equal rights, and now we have them.”
