Daily Cute: Rescued Jaguar Purrs as He Gets Pet

Daily Cute: Rescued Jaguar Purrs as He Gets Pet

It’s amazing (and a bit intimidating) to hear a jaguar purr, but that’s exactly what this one is doing when he gets a good head scratch from one of the people working at the Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory in Kansas.

Check back daily for more adorable animal videos.

How fantastic. I volunteer at a large cat sanctuary and to hear the mountain lions and florida panters purr is always so amazing.

Ramon S : good catch! Only the small cats can purr inhaling and exhaling. Lions, tigers, leopards and jaguars can only make a purr-like sound on exhaling. It has to do with the placement and flexibility of their hyoid bone.

Purring/small cats tend to have rigid hyoid bones, the roaring/big cats have more flexible, less bony hyoids that let them roar but may keep them from truly purring.

A mountain lion/puma/panther/painter/cougar/catamount (different names for the same cat) the largest of the small cats, and can purr up a storm. I've had the privilege of hearing it up close :) R.I.P my Buddy
