Developing: 5th Circuit Stays Order Reinstating Planned Parenthood Funds

Last night Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot filed an emergency motion to stay the decision by federal judge Lee Yeakal to block de-funding of Planned Parenthood affiliates by the state Women’s Health Program. This morning, Fifth Circuit Judge Jerry Smith granted it.

The stay means that as of today the rule can be enforced and the funding pulled. Judge Smith requested Planned Parenthood respond to the stay by 5 pm today.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is the same court of appeals that ruled mandatory transvaginal ultrasounds did not violate a woman’s constitutional rights and it looks like it’s on a similar crusade here.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has to go! This group of constipated old white male fuddy duddies is a disgrace to humanity, as is the Republican/Teabagger dominated Texas government and especial Gov Rick Perry.

Women, the mothers, sisters, grandmothers, daughters, and nieces of society contribute so much yet are treated, at best, as third class citizens by myopic and ever so ignorant pseudo Christian men. This has to end!!!!!

Thank you to all the concerned men who stand with women to protect their rights!

As Carole L says (with a minor change) Come November 2013 & 2014, women and their supporters will remember!

Awesome.

Five man panels by Rep. Darrel Issa, Dem. CA,
Republicans running for president, vice president,
state law makers,
radio talk shows,
tv intrerviewers who don't point out lies,
all against a woman's right to choose.

Women have had the vote for less than 100 years, they will loose it in far less time if they don't vote these republicans out of office and rise up against these liers.

If more women don't realize that THEIR rights are swiftly being taken away by the narrow minded politicians, and if they don't act by voting them out of office, there will come a day when women will ask themselves, what happened to my rights?? By that time it will be too late. The future of women who have to put up with all this injustice of being attacked on contraception, abortion, and closing the Planned Parenthood offices which have helped with cancer screenings, pregnancies and many others is leading them down the path to second class citizenship. Sex Education should be MANDATORY. Women have so much power but they don't realize it, and if they do they don't use it. If women went on strike in the kitchen and the bedroom, I believe things would change quickly and for the better. Look at the voting records of all the politicians and use the Power of YOUR VOTE to keep the politicians that are fighting for your equal rights in and remove any politician of any party that tries to take away your rights. Use Google and utube to find answers for your questions. I Googled if Romney was ever for abortions and found out in 2002 he was definitely PRO CHOICE . Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

Wesley S., thanks and I will look it up but to tell you the truth by the time I finished Handmaid Tale I was so angery I actually threw up. After reading 1984 I had nightmares for weeks. These two stories got to me because I believe this is happening as we speak. Just another reason to say that if the Republicans and the Tea Party we WILL become the next Middle East in the year 1984.

Luvenia; Also try "If This Goes On", a novel out of the '50's, by Robert Heinlein. (Handmaid's Tale even more so...)

got cut off,

Taking advantage of electronic banking, they were quickly able to freeze the assets of all women and other "undesirables" in the country, stripping them of their rights. The new theocratic military dictatorship, styled "The Republic of Gilead", moved quickly to consolidate its power and reorganize society along a new militarized, hierarchical, compulsorily Christian regime of Old Testament-inspired social and religious orthodoxy among its newly created social classes. In this society, almost all women are forbidden to read.

The following seems to fit so many articles today so I am going to post it AGAIN. This is about control, total control. I can’t believe that even ONE woman or One man that cares about their daughters, wives or children could stand behind this kind of trash. A vote for a Republican or a member of the Tea Party is a vote for the next Middle East. I stand behind Planned Parenthood and YOU should to.

Plot summary
The Handmaid's Tale is set in the near future in the Republic of Gilead, a country formed within the borders of what was formerly the United States of America. It was founded by a racist, male chauvinist, nativist, theocratic-organized military coup as an ideologically driven response to the pervasive ecological, physical and social degradation of the country.
Beginning with a staged terrorist attack (blamed on Islamic extremist terrorists) that kills the President and most of Congress, a movement calling itself the "Sons of Jacob" launched a revolution and suspend the United States Constitution under the pretext of restoring order.
