Reality TV Mogul Donald Trump’s gambit for a speaking slot at the Republican National Convention appears to have just been the icebreaker. Now that the businessman and former presidential player has started talking, it’s hard to get him to stop.
Lucky for likely nominee Mitt Romney, Trump is putting his money where his mouth is.
First, Trump is offering to be Romney’s “Clooney,” allowing those who send Romney donations a chance to win a dinner with The Donald. President Barack Obama recently did the same fundraising tactic, offering a meal with actor George Clooney, and Trump and Romney’s staff must believe he has the same cachet and popularity.
Trump will also be hosting a Las Vegas fundraiser for Romney, and is considering pulling together his own super PAC, too. His goal is to show American Crossroads how it should be done, after accusing them of making Obama look too good in one of their commercials. “‘I thought it was one of the worst commercials, in terms of what they were trying to do, that I’ve ever seen,’ said Trump in April. ‘They are making Obama look great.’”
That’s a lot of talk, and a lot of potential money being thrown around. Could it have something to do with Trump believing that he’s “the best choice” for a Romney running mate?
That’s a joke, right? Right?
