Swimming with dolphins has become a popular pastime in recent years. The Somente Aqua Dolphin Centre in Ponta Do Ouro-Mozambique, South Africa offers swimming and snorkeling with wild dolphins to its guests. The dolphins are not captive; people ride in a boat in the ocean for the meetup.
A more unique attraction is the Centre’s founder Noleen Withers’ black Labrador Retriever, Kira, who regularly swims with the wild dolphins. She even has one of the Center’s boats named after her.
Kira normally senses the dolphins before they can be sighted by humans and will let the crew know by bouncing back and forth in the boat. She is also able to determine if the dolphins are resting by the scent of ammonia they give off while at rest; she will not jump into the water until the dolphins are ready.
