Dog Watches Over Pal After Surviving Tsunami (Video)

Dog Watches Over Pal After Surviving Tsunami (Video)

Emotional video of a faithful dog standing guard over his injured pal after they survived the tsunami in Japan shows firsthand the struggles animal rescue groups will face in the coming weeks to save the lives of pets that are now alone and frightened.

The clip was filmed by a crew from Fuji Television and is narrated in Japanese, but no translation is needed to understand the heartbreak the dogs are experiencing.   (The video will bring tears to your eyes.)

Ohmidog website reported that people in Japan are writing to the TV station asking them to disclose the location of the dogs so they can be rescued.

The outcome of this tragedy is unknown at this time.  But as the woman who revealed the story wrote to Ohmidog, “…ask your readers to pray for the dogs’ safety.”

This story was also covered on Life With Dogs.

Hoorible tragedy for people and animals. So many dead. You wonder why things like this have to happen and we all need to count our blessings every day.

Felicia T., Thanks for the translation. I was wondering what they were saying. I speak only 3 words of Japanese, "Hi, oreagato, sho sho omachi kudasi"

It's a touching moment. I couldn't help but want to do something for these guys. Since I understand the video, I'll do a rough translation of the clip:

Reporter:
"I'm now at Arahama... Ah, there's a dog!"
"It seems to be dirty.. Probably took a lot from the waves."
"He's all black now, I see."
"There's a collar on his neck, so he belongs to someone.. A silver collar."
"He looks scared."

Dog: *woof*

Reporter: "He seems to be scared but.."
"Ah, there's another dog! But is it dead?"
*talks to his camera man*
"There's another dog over there, laying down, right where the dog is seated.."
"..doesn't seem to be moving.."
"I wonder if it's...dead?"

Cameraman: "He's protecting his mate.. that fellow.."

Reporter: "Yeah.. he's protecting *her all right." (I'm assuming their genders - japanese grammar don't come with gender in their words)
"I think I got what he meant. He saw us approaching and was probably telling us not to come close.."
"Uh..I don't think I can continue looking at this."

After a while...

"Oh.. I think she's moving a little..! She's alive, that's great!"
"Although she's alive, she looks real weak, the poor girl.."
"I hope she gets help soon."

"She's up, she's up."
"That's great.."
"It's great that she survived this terrible earthquake.. with the unrelenting tsunami waves and earthquake coming and going like that..it's great they both survived."

Someone else: "it'll be good if I had some food for them..."

End.

@Margaret F., There was a happy ending. This vid has been on line a long time. I saw, I beleive on TV news, that this pair was picked up by a rescue group. I wish that had toggen to Care2. I would have liked to have heard what happened after the rescue.
