Even Pat Robertson Thinks GOP is Too Extreme

Written by Marie Diamond, ThinkProgress

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when one of the most radical, hate-spewing figures in America calls you “extreme.” That’s how televangelist Pat Robertson described the field of GOP candidates, Right Wing Watch reports. On his show The 700 Club, Robertson warned that the GOP base is pushing their party’s presidential nominees to take such extreme positions that they will be unelectable. “I believe it was Lyndon Johnson that said, ‘Don’t these people realize if they push me over to an extreme position I’ll lose the election?’” he said. “Those people in the Republican primary have got to lay off of this stuff. They’re forcing their leaders, the frontrunners, into positions that will mean they lose the general election…They’ve got to stop this! It’s just so counterproductive!” Watch it:

Seriously, after watching part of the antics of the 2 major rejects thrown out there by the desperate Repugs, I now know how to curb my appetite to lose weight, just record them and watch when hunger strikes. both of them are disgusting. The only reason they are out there cavorting on stages and appearing in front of cameras is because everyone in politics thinks Obama, after the first 4 failed years, will be a pushover. Whatever YOU think, about whatever candidate, including write ins, VOTE! As they say in Obama's home state, "Vote early . . . and often!

Pat Robinson thinks???? When did that pucker on the back end of a donkey learn to claim that? The next thing you know, he'll be running for President along with Sarah Palin. Wouldn't it be great if you could call 911 and get psychiatric first responders? The way the presidential aspirations are going even this far before election day, we'll need large herds of them to cope with the candidates.

If an ultra right winger is saying they're extreme, there must be something to it.

Finally, Pat Robertson makes sense!

Paul B. I am not quite sure how rebuilding the American infrastructure (repairing roads and replacing the thousands of bridges that have been placed on the marginal list) and asking the uber-rich to pay their fair share in taxes is in 'his own personal interest'..... has he made a law that only he is allowed to use the roads and bridges????

You say that Republicans are obstructionists, but when a minority party is totally ignored, ridiculed and demeaned for having an opinion and having zero input into any legislation, that is the response you get. To compare, just look at what the Democratic senate is sitting on and refusing to even consider or debate ANY legislation coming from the House.

I only mention this because it simply goes to show that tactic is not party specific, it is simply the corruption that exists in all of DC. What I do see though is the deceptive nature of Dems versus Reps. I think Reps are at least a bit more honest when they do things. Dems say one thing, but do something entirely different when the spotlight is not on. That hypocrisy is worse than any obstruction in and of itself.

Look we could debate these topics forever. All I ask is that you look make better attempts to formulate your own opinions based upon your own research, looking at the other side, applying some reason and less emotion, and don't take for fact what could very well be misinformation, or twisted facts, from your media sources. Much of that is disseminated intentionally to distract you and promote the class warfare and division that keeps the DC system of corruption intact and in control.

Obama is NOT seeking you best interest, only his personal interests, which include a adhering to a strict ideology that government knows best. He is condescending to americans by supporting the theory that we are unable to take care of ourselves. All the Dem policies have been shown repeatedly to create many of the problems they claim more of the same polcies will cure. We have been spending trillions and have not inproved the situation. It only serves to exacerbate the problems we face.

I do not appreciate your condemnation of the Tea Party, especially with your apparent unfamiliarity with its root intent and lack of personal observable or researched basis. You appear to have succombed to the media's "opinion," which is your first mistake.

MSM coverage of Obama by the big 4 is not 4-1 bad. I read that survey and it was meant to indicate that it was MSM, but it was actually 15,000 blogs, talk radio and related websites etc., the only source for conservative media to express itself out side of Fox News. I think you should recheck your source and look a little deeper.

It is unfortunate that you continue to think the Tea Party is your enemy because they are the ones who would be most likely to assist in cleaning house in DC and ending the corruption that , yes, you beloved Obama is entrenched within.

Eddie O. I appreciate your attitude concerning the OWS, but have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of the Tea Party. It is not hateful, it is not run by a bunch of corrupt millionaires out to line their own pockets. I have seen a lot of what they do, what they fight for and what they stand for, and it is NOT what you claim. I don't know where you get your information, but it appears that a few incidents have been blown up to generalize the entire movement.

One could easily make the same associations concerning the OWS with the support being given by communist and Marxist parties, but I dont' succomb to those sweeping generalizations, lacking sound basis or fact and I suggest you do likewise. The media is so twisted and opinionated they continually confuse fact with personal opinion.

The OWS violence was prompted by the fact that they failed to respect authority and broke laws, and in some cases actually instigated the confrontations. The association with unions is very similar to association with corrupt corporations. They are cut from the same greedy, power hungry cloth.

Of course, there's still some time before the elections, and who knows, maybe Obama will truly get his strength, power, and courage to stand up to the corruption in our government, and win back the hearts of the people. I'm not holding my breath about this, but do see him finally deciding to take some action, rather than wasting his time trying to get compromise from the Republicans, who refuse to compromise even if it means they receive 10 times what they have to give, and that they destroy us in the process. It appears that in their minds, destroying America would be great as they sadly feel it would increase their chances of getting elected. It's such a sad state of affairs when this is their main objective, rather than being: of, for, and by the People!
