Why not make a date with your future this Saturday?

"Dear World,
This is an invitation to build a movement—to take one day and use it to stop the climate crisis."
Thus starts the invitation from Bill McKibben and his colleagues to participate in the International Day of Climate Action this Saturday, October 24th.
The event, initiated by his organization 350.org, is comprised of a series of grassroots happenings around the world -- 4,300 and counting.
Do you live in Chicago? Enter a 5k or attend a film screening.
Are you in New York? Take a "future sea level bike ride" or preview an art show on climate change.
If you are across the pond in London, you can or participate in "the big blow" (no, it is not what you think it is!) And in San Diego, they are holding a Kick Gas Festival.
The searchable event listings page, and an interactive world map is available here. See what's happening in the area where you live.
The purpose of the "day of action" is to demonstrate that the public cares about climate change. As the invite says:
"October 24 comes six weeks before those crucial UN meetings in Copenhagen...Can we muster the courage, the commitment, and the creativity to set this earth on a steady course before it's too late? October 24 will be the joyful, powerful day when we prove it's possible."
With the UN chief climate officer Yvo de Boer already setting expectations for failure in Copenhagen, it is more important than ever to find reasons for optimism, and opportunities to demonstrate commitment. While rallies and creative renditions of the number '350' may not be as impactful as saving forests or supporting renewable energy, the events will help send a message of solidarity. You can even start one of your own -- it's not too late!

Have you seen that program, "Life After People?" What an eye-opener! It gave me the willies, and it could happen if we don't get with the program.

Good idea, anything that brings more attention to global warming is a positive step. It still amazes me how many people say it is not happening. March on!! Barbara H.

My husband and I ordered two t shirts to wear on that day from Cafe Press. Unfortunately the ink colors were subtly changed so you can not read the 350. I'm not sure I want to trust Cafe Press now.

I am in total agreement with this cause. I believe that if left alone, MAN will destroy all that is near and dear to him. We have to stand up NOW and raise our voices on this issue. We will destroy our planet and civilization as we know it will cease to exist. Please , I beg of you lets stop this attrocity .
